No, this isn't the thread about drinking. The storm coming through the Bay Area overnight and this morning was quite the gully-washer, not to mention the wind yesterday and last night. Tree limbs down everywhere, power out, etc. Usually we kind of ease into the rainy season, not with a nasty storm like this one. Hopefully it's cold enough to be snowing in the mountains - they're gonna get FEET of snow in just a couple days!! The automated weather station nearest where I'm backpacking this weekend is showing rainfall of 3-1/4 inches in the last 30 hours - that oughtta get those streams running again....

Cool huh....
Power was out here (Redding) for 4 hours last night, just sat around and read with my Aurora. They are calling for it to break up by Monday, kinda hope not, we need the snow...were leaving for a 10 day trip on tuesday, right now there's too much snow to walk on and not quite enough to ski/snowshoe on, at least in Lassen and north of here.

Why I live in Florida!
Today Melbourne, Florida, is being hammered, also, with sunshine and t-shirt weather.

Latest check of Yosemite area weather stations: temps hovering at around 40 up to 7000' (i.e., no snow). Further north, at about 8500' in the Emigrant Wilderness, temps about 33, so probably some slushy heavy snow that may or may not be sticking.

Mammoth Mtn report:
Mammoth Gets Pounded With 18-20 Inches of New Snow

"Mother Nature heard that yesterday was Mammoth's Opening Day and is pulling out all the stops. 18-20 inches of fresh is on the ground and it is still coming down! This new snow will complement the efforts of our snowmaking crew to create a great early season base. As the snow continues to fall, we're keeping a close eye on coverage and will open additional terrain as it becomes available. It's time to grab your gear and come see for yourself what early season at Mammoth is all about."

The east side of the Sierras is getting nailed as well. Predictions of two to four feet of accumulation in the high evlevations, 5000' or so. I guess this means its winter.

While it was cool and dry here, Whistler had their 120 snow guns going full force. Now their expecting the freezing level to keep rising. It could be raining to the top, by Sunday.

I think all of the Americans are gonna be skiing on rocks, for Thanksgiving opening weekend, this year.

What are you saying Hodgeman? Maybe the Americans at Whistler will be skiing on rocks, but there will be some snow in the Sierras and the Rockies down here. Wolf Creek Colorado is 100% open.

SN ........... after reading your thread about
the solo trip up to the glacier last week and then reading about all this rain and snow I thinking it's a good thing you didn't try to stretch one more solo BPing trip in. BTY, that was a great report. The country up there looked rugged. I would tell ya that you've got a helluva set of cajones but I saw that picture of you in the black tee-back at Snow Nymph Falls so I know that isn't true! Enjoy the snowboarding season and tell us all about it.

Phil,
Been doing any dutch oven cooking?

Glad to hear you guys are going to get a good start, this year.

Ya, that is what I was saying, Pathman. The U.S. long weekend is usually totally huge, up here. Normally, you'd hardly find a place to park, between all af the Washington and Oregon vehicles. We may be in for a lot of last minute cancels

And we had to cancel a BP trip , sob, sob
Tahoe didn't whine in his post that we had to cancel a trip this weekend, so I will. He was going to cross over to my side of the mountain Sat AM, but too much snow in the mtns, + I had to stay home & make repairs to the fence & sliding glass door from the windstorm. BUT... now I can get out my snowshoes WHOOHOO!
