Red Tide (cough, cough, cough) “My work location at a supermarket is only a few blocks from the Atlantic ocean. The area is being hit by "Red Tide," and it was very difficult being outside yesterday. It was cough, cough, cough, everytime I was outside for a minute or more. I heard that the wind will shift sometime today and blow the irritant out to sea. I sure hope so. This experience is something new to me. Here is a short article on it: Red tide toxin still present at Indialantic beach ” 7:53:54 AM 11/10/02 “Sorry, Paul, the link doesn't work. We had frequent red tides when I lived in The Peoples' Republik of Kalifornia. Fishing was useless but I don't remember any respiratory or any other ill effects... It's caused by blooms of plankton using up the available oxygen in the surrounding water. Sea life in the affected area suffocates and croaks...” 8:09:18 AM 11/10/02 “Thanks, Father Goose Here is the link again, and the url. Red tide toxin still present at Indialantic beach http://www.floridatoday.com/!NEWSROOM/localstoryA34660A.htm” 8:28:25 AM 11/10/02 “red tide in the gulf was first reported around the sarosota areas..the blooms each year are becoming bigger and bigger...aside from using up all the oxygen, it also produces other things that are irritants...most pple claim respitory effects, red skin rashes, and skin burns...young children and older pple are effected more..but i know once when i was longboat key in sarasota last year i thought i was maced. Got alot of kewl shells off the beach due to the high kill that was on the beach.” 11:09:52 AM 11/10/02 “when i was younger there was red tide on vacation. i had one of those little battery powered jeeps that runs for 20 minutes before dying, and i had so much fun running over dead jellyfish and other stuff on the beach.” 9:36:36 PM 11/10/02 “that sucks, blame Iraq!!” 9:47:25 PM 11/10/02 “It was better today while the wind was blowing away from shore. But whole communities have been coughing for a week or more. It just illustrates how easy chemical warfare could wipe out populations. The red tide here is expected to be gone in about a week.” 9:55:23 PM 11/10/02 5:25:41 AM 11/13/02 “I thought this was gonna be another commie pinko thread by Tilt... lol” 5:27:45 AM 11/13/02 “sounds like a feminine problem” 8:20:40 AM 11/13/02 cough, cough “The red tide is lingering in the area (Melbourne, FL). When the wind blows in from the sea, it's cough, cough cough, each time I hit the parking lot at work(supermarket). It's really rough for the people living beachside. Environmentalists not sure how long red tide bloom will last Various local articles” 7:47:57 AM 11/23/02 “Thats whatcha get fer livin so close to cuba.” 8:16:11 AM 11/23/02 “dirtyoldman - You're right. But, also, we get no snow. I'll be laughing all the way to work. (Work! Oh dam, I've got to get going.)” 8:26:31 AM 11/23/02 “no snow?... doubly cursed!” 8:28:25 AM 11/23/02 “Yep, still miss the snow and the nifty winter clothes and wardrobe, LOL! One thing I don't miss about living further north is the winter static. That's a bear.” 8:30:00 AM 11/23/02 “Good morning. I feel for you, DOM. My hours today are only 10:30-7:30. Going on 7 consecutive days, but I'm off on Thursday. But it is great exercise, lifting all them birds into shopping carts and into the back of RV's. dirtyoldman - Wind came in yesterday and I was coughing again whenever outside. But I had a lot of customers laughing at your one-liner.” 5:19:31 AM 11/24/02 Oops “That post was for the "Get up" string. From the newspaper(as read on the computer) Nov 28, 8:31 PM Residents receive red tide relief 'Davis said the winds have temporarily pushed the red tide neurotoxin away from the shore. "There are fewer people out renting surfboards," she said. "The water can feel slimy, and there are sometimes dead fish in it." '” 6:39:42 AM 11/29/02 “aka nowslimmer” 6:41:49 AM 11/29/02
