50-50-5 Tour
At the first of October my friend and I took off for 50miles 50lbs. in 5 days on the AT. Im hooked now and will be going back soon. I enjoyd every step however so slow. One more person in the backpacking enjoyment. Started at Winding stair gap NC and ended at Dicks Creek Gap GA, about 2.5 miles from some land I have. I have some gear now but would appreciate some good ideas on a good light 2 person tent Thanks

My personal favorite and the one seen most frequently on the AT is the Sierra Designs (Clip) Flashlight. If you and your projected partner are large, you might consider the Clip3.

Then again, you might also consider the Hennessy Hammock. And get your pack weight down, for chrissakes...

Glad to see yet another is hooked. There is a lot of info on this site, but you might have to wade through some #&%!$ first. Bring the wadders, it can get deep around here.

To answer your questin, I would look at eh Sierria Designs Clip Flashight (yes, it's a tent). Great shelter, little tight fer two, but doable, and good weight.

What kind on conditions are going to use this tent in? Waht's your budget? You want a tent ot tarp? Many thing to concider!

i was actually thinking it being your first trip,50 pounds for 5 days wasn't so bad. it is funny to think back on what i used to carry "just in case". live and learn, it only gets better.

If I was going to buy a new 2 person, 3 season tent it would probably be this SD Meteorlite. Kinda heavy for some of the folks around here though.

Nice going Handlebar! Very cool you had a great time! From the tone of your post, it's pretty obvious that you're hooked. Best of luck, and most of the people here really enjoy reading others' trip reports.. so go hiking as much as possible and share your stories on TT!

Hey Garfum, I like the way they draw in the dog in the vestubule of the Meteorlite. Hehehehe.

Oh well, that's where my mutt sleeps.

Check out the SD Astroid. Single pole. Roomy enough for two and can be set up w/ just rainfly and groundcloth to lighten the load.

I considered this tent.. but ended up w/ the SD Clip Flashlight. Seems to me, it'd be just a bit cozy w/ two people. Guess it depends on who that second person is.

Have fun!!!!

Thanks for the info I'll check out these tent ideas soon, just need to get my wife on the trail when the winter is over. I hope to go agian soon. I've done a lot of car camping and day hikes but have learned a lot from TT. 50lbs was too much but I'll cut down on the just in case stuff, except the Jack Daniels
