Moving To The Big City (Aero, Geezr?)View MessagesViewing posts 1 to 29 of 29 messages posted.
“It looks like I might be packing up and heading to MT's big city (notice how there is only 1). The drive to class is burning me out totally. My little sis and I might get a place. I have questions for you Aero and Geezr. First, I might try to do a paper route for a little dough in the AM. That way I have the whole rest of the day w/ Newergirl, I don't have to put her in daycare, and I can still go to class at night. Do you two think I'm safe doing an early AM route by myself? Obviously not on the south side. Second question, I might have some other part-time options. In that case, I will need some part-time daycare. Any suggestions? I will not do "in-home" daycare. The college would be the best choice, but they have a long application process, waiting list. Wow! Exciting. I used to move all the time. This will be my first move in 2 and 1/2 yrs. I've been really scared to do this, because of how much it might impact Newergirl. But I can't do the drive anymore, plus that drive takes 2 hrs. extra every night that I have class away from her. Also, do you guys know of any great, 3 bdrm. places for cheap? I've have appts. to see several places on Thurs.” 11:12:13 AM 11/11/02 “Your desire to move from a stable home reflects a personality maladjustment in which your ego is controlling your id. You should go to the big city, but only for psychoanalysis. Call my secretary and she'll refer you to a licensed professional in your area.” 11:31:03 AM 11/11/02 “Newgirl, our carrier delivers at around 4:30 A.M. and I pass several other on my bike commute to DBC. Other than them, and the odd car, I see very little going on that time of day. I'd have to think you'd be pretty safe depending on where you'll be delivering. Like you mentioned, I'd avoid the southside. To be safe, I'd think about carrying pepper spray. Plus, I know a bunch of people who either ride or walk to DBC around that time of day and have never had a problem. Daycare; since you left the nest we haven't looked into it, but I'll e-mail several friends who use it and get back to you. Housing; will keep our eyes open. I think you'll like being here and know you won't miss the time lost driving to and from. Good Luck!” 11:38:20 AM 11/11/02 11:45:28 AM 11/11/02 “I wonder how the southside there compares to the southside of Memphis? Do you guys have at least one drive by a day?” 11:50:13 AM 11/11/02 “drive by elk killing maybe.” 11:51:26 AM 11/11/02 “i know, what's up with the crapholes of cities always being to the relative south? bizarre! :-) good luck with finding a place, ng!” 11:51:47 AM 11/11/02 “"I wonder how the southside there compares to the southside of Memphis? Do you guys have at least one drive by a day?" chili36 11:50:13 AM 11/11/02 Chili, what is the difference between the southside, northside, eastside and westside of Memphis, aren't they all the same...ducking as he throws something” 11:57:33 AM 11/11/02 “Newgirl, we moved when my son was about Newergirl's age. He's handled it a lot better than my daughter did. She claims she still misses our old house. They have both adjusted to the move well. If it means she gets to spend more time with you, I'm sure she'll love it!” 12:19:20 PM 11/11/02 “actually ewker, the drug dealer market is defined by geography... crack on the south side herb on the west side heroin on the north side and really high priced designer drugs on the east side” 12:31:14 PM 11/11/02 “Thanks Geezr. I'm glad to get any input. Bit, that is my primary reason for this move. I'm pretty sure that it is going to allow me more time w/ Newergirl. I'm just nervous, because she has always had her Me-ma (grandma) as daycare provider and we live right around the corner from her. Plus, it's the city not the country. I'm worried about that too. My sister will be living w/ us though, and my grandmother, aunt, and father live there. I might be able to work out daycare options w/ them, instead of putting her in "outside" care. She has never had a babysitter that was not a family member and I am very, VERY protective about that.” 12:49:43 PM 11/11/02 “My main goal is to provide for her, seek a better life for her, and still be there to actually RAISE her right now. I keep juggling my life around so I can best do that. I think this move will allow me more time for being there.” 1:00:43 PM 11/11/02 “i bet your sister could help take care of her! is your sis in school, or what?” 1:03:21 PM 11/11/02 “Lyra, if I choose to do the AM paper route thing, then she would still be sleeping when I left and when I got back. That way my sis would just have to basically sleep too, but take care of her if something happened to come up. That would be ideal.” 1:08:23 PM 11/11/02 Moving to the "city" “Its all relative. Years ago CBS did a story on the remote areas of WY. They interivewed a lady who ran a gas/beer station out by Labarge. She was nervous about "moving into the city," Kemmerer. Population could not have been over 7,500 at the time.” 2:43:02 PM 11/11/02 “hmmm,,,,,city??? job??? this calls for some music.. I left a good job in the city Working for the man every night and day And I never lost one minute of sleeping Worrying 'bout the way things might have been Big wheel keep on turning Proud mary keep on burning And we’re rolling, rolling Rolling on the river Cleaned a lot of plates in Memphis Pumped a lot of tane down in New Orleans But I never saw the good side of the city Till I hitched a ride on a riverboat queen Big wheel keep on turning Proud mary keep on burning And we’re rolling, rolling Rolling on the river If you come down to the river I bet you gonna find some people who live You don’t have to worry if you got no money People on the river are happy to give thank goodness Tina left Nutbush, TN to come to Memphis...think of what we would have missed without her...” 2:51:42 PM 11/11/02 “I'd be going from 3,522 (and I don't actually even live in town) to just over a 100,000 (and actually in the city). I've lived in bigger cities, but I didn't have a 2 yr. old. I'm just one of those neurotic, nervous mothers.” 2:59:21 PM 11/11/02 “You may want to consider buying a mobile home. I know some people who did this when they were going to college. When they were done with college, they sold the place to another student. Rent is probably similar to a payment. And alot of these types of deal are near school. And, it's a great way to build equity when you decide to buy that house. That is what me and the wife did. And, when we built our house, the money we got from the trailer paid for the lot we built the house on. Just another option. Good Luck!!” 3:17:05 PM 11/11/02 “Montana has a SOUTH SIDE o how scary!” 3:22:42 PM 11/11/02 “It's an idea Chief. Thanks. I actually know another kid who did the same thing. It worked out good for him too.” 3:26:47 PM 11/11/02 “Can I come too?????? 8)” 5:38:22 PM 11/11/02 “To the South Side?” 5:41:23 PM 11/11/02 “Mike, can you come where too?” 9:28:32 AM 11/12/02 “i doubt i want to know!” 9:31:29 AM 11/12/02 “Newgirl, Of course, aero and geezr know better than I do, but there are lots of places around that "big city" that are like being out in the country - you just have to look around. Good luck!!” 10:29:21 AM 11/12/02 “Thanks Marty! It'll work out just fine. I've been struggling making this decision for over a yr. now. I used to move after thinking about it for like a wk. I'm sure I can do this no problem.” 10:44:24 AM 11/12/02 "Won't you be my neighbor?"- Mister Rogers “NG- I'll check in my neighborhood. It seems like there's a lot of rentals around, plus it's near the U and some parks. There are a lot of rentals south of Parkhill to Grand and west of Pioneer Park. Also check to college streets between Rocky and MSUB for rentals. Good luck!” 11:38:54 AM 11/12/02 Attention Newgirl “Newgirl, this is a message from a close friend regarding your daycare inquiry. Little Rascals, located on Wyoming, but there is one in the Heights on Lake Elmo. She needs to talk to Janet, the number is 245-2428. I highly recommend this facility.” 5:18:20 PM 11/13/02 “Thanks you guys! I'm still on the hunt for a place. We looked at a few in the Heights, but the landlords/management acted pretty unprofessional, so we're still looking. Aero, I'm totally trying to get a place in that area. It would be prime location for me. Geezr, I've also heard good things on this daycare. I'll look into it.” 10:41:38 AM 11/20/02
