Matt I like the update
Trail Talk's new look is great. Good Job Matt.

I really like the change from the bright white to a dark forrest green. And the leaf texture to the background is gravy.

I hope the new graphics, and interface loads fast for all. The left side bar that tells us who is logged and has the page open is great. It will cut back on trolls, however it could allso spawn chatroom styled threads.

And the spell checker built intot he text box is great. It will help me.

All and all great job. I like it, I hope others do too.

I have cable so my server runs faster then most others. Your 56k server may not have accepted the new changes. Yet.

Remeber how long it took every one to be on the same page last time matt change the site?

Ha! cable is faster and if you have: Sprint, MCI, Bell Atlantic, At&T or verison your DSL isn't all that fast. Infact those companys are comparably slower against other serveses.
Ice Tea

No, it's not. Cable is a shared connection which slows it down. Again, eat my dust.

sorry to burst your bubble Skully...

DSL has to be direct to the hub because it's on crappy wire... you are shared after that point

Cable is shared because there is more bandwidth...

the Cable is slow because it's shared was a myth that they stopped advertising because of court order...

'Cable is a shared connection which slows it down.' - skullcap

You're right. My cable shared connections seems to really drag on downloads. Hardly ever comes over at more than 265 kb per second. But it is a little better than my compuserve rate around 2.65 kb per second. How speedy are your downloads?

I'm no techy at all, but I have had cable and now have DSL. This particular DSL kicks the crap out of the cable I had. I guess it depends on where ya live.

The speedtest at Broadband Reports.com sez.....1228kbs. That is not uncommon for DSL in major cities.

Be sure and rinse that grit out of your teeth before bedtime.

You can test your speed here. I'm using Adelphia cable...for the moment at least. As soon as they go under, I'll be out of luck, but they're the only game in town right now. My speed was just tested at 4579.1 Kbps. That's 3X faster than a T1 line. Yes, it slows downa bit during busier times. Sometimes it goes down as low a 1 Mbps.

Oh yeah, other speed tests.

SpeedGuide.net provides some great Cable and DSL links. You can tweak your registry to improve your speed.

Gibson Research Corp has some good Security Links. You can also test your security using

Not to rain on anyone's parade, but technically the speed of the connection is not a good sign of how fast changes will be seen. When I changed the format a year ago, I also changed IP addresses. It is this DNS change that must be recognized by your DNS server, not your actual connection. So, technically, the quality of your provider will determine how fast you see any major changes.
