Are you looking to sell a Pocket Rocket Corporal?

Nope. Not at all. Looking to give it away. Need one?

Absitively, posilutely. I want to test it out over the winter. I've been playing with the Pepsi can stove and the Esbit. If you are giving it away, the price would be great.

Testing it out over the winter is a pain, which is why I'm giving it away actually. On the Overlook mountain trip, I was having problems with the fuel getting too cold, so I picked up the Zip stove, which should work year round- I don't need the rocket anymore, you're more than welcome to it, it's a kick a$$ little stove, for the warmer weather anyway.

I usually keep the canister in my shirt to warm it up prior to cooking.

I kept mine down my pants. Boy was that cold. Geo, you have mail.

Whoa!
Was it one of those LARGE canisters?
Tom Terrific

11/17/02

Ha! nope, one of the small ones. Insert size jokes here______________
Of course, I'm required by male law to say there's only room for one large object in the front of my pants, and it's already taken. :)

Thank you corporal. I will talk to the old man about promoting you to sergeant.

Fortunately, there is plenty of room in my pants to warm it up. I will be testing indoors. I think this will fill all the needs at once. The Pepsi can is light enough to serve either as backup or for just boiling water, saving the Pocket Rocket for the more esoteric cooking chores where heat control or simmering is needed.

Old man?

You mean older than YOU?

Okay sonny boy, ...
Old man is what we militaristic types call the commanding officer. Even grizzled old sergeants refer to young green lieutenants as the old man, which is a hoot when they try to keep a straight face as they say it.

Hee hee!

I was the old man when I was in the NG mountain infantry in New England.

35-38 seems young to me now though.

Wow, I'm gone three days and this thread is still taking off like a rocket! Anyway, my plan as of now is to leave early on Saturday morning. Corporal Nasty, I'll probably meet you and whoever else is staying Friday night at the trailhead.

There are a few options of exactly where to begin this little hoot-nanny, and I think it's best to decide an exact starting/meeting place a few days before when we have a better idea of what the conditions will be like. Since there are quite a few options, we may want to tweak the route a bit depending on how much snow and/or ice there'll be.

robbietaf and others who have posted and may not know me or Corporal Nasty: WELCOME! Stay tuned for further details. :-)

Tom Terrific - it's from "The 13th Warrior". Corporal Nasty and I are both huge fans of the movie, which is based on Michael Chricton's (sp?) "Eaters of the Dead". Kickarse story!!!
Artex

...which was based, loosely, on "Beowulf". Fortunately for Mr. Crichton, the original author's estate did not come forward and charge him royalties...lol..

How do you say???........Ah, yes!
Tom Terrific

Bit
Actually, I think Chrichton himself said (not in so many words) that he wanted to rip off Beowulf- In the foreword of Eaters of the Dead, no less.
"And I... at least... know who my father was, you... pig eating... son of a whore."

Hey, it's a great story. I mean, what's not to like about an epic hero who slays the monster by pulling off the monster's arm and beating him to death with it?

Or a noble leader who was poisoned but recovers briefly to fight a final battle with his clan... man, great stuff!

New here, been over at BP.com for a coupla' years. The notches between Indian & Twin, Twin & Sugar, are both rocky with few flat spots to camp. Took this exact trip back in Oct. Found a small flat in the Indian/Twin Notch, about halfway down under a small grove of fir trees- it already had a fire ring, so I guess it was one of the few spots there. Found an open flat-ISH spot in the Twin/Sugarloaf notch, about 1/4way down, again- it already had a fire pit, so it must have been one of the few decent camp spots around.

Wish I was going with you guys! But, 1) I don't have the winter/ice gear, and 2) my wife would never let me get away with it- especially since I'm getting ready to buy a $2000 mountain bike, my other vice. You pick your battles...

Have fun!

I may be bailing on this one but I plan on doing a trip somewhere up there the weekend before christmas if anyone is interested. It all depends on how much snow and the temps. I'd like to get a bit of snowshoeing in that weekend so if I have to go to the Dak's I'll do that too.

By the way, do you have a route planned? I know you mentioned the 3 peaks, but are we doing a point to point with shuttling, out and back, or some kind of loop thingy?

I just got off the phone with Goretex, and I think some of us might be doing a modified route there... For those of us who are not fast hikers, or who broke a toe this morning like myself, here's an option. We (Goretex, Chelle and I so far) will probably be hitting the trail Friday night, hiking in a little and camping out. We'll take the Jimmy Dolan trail to meet up with the Devil's path, which will bypass Indian Head- From there, we'd hike up Twin, and from what I understand there's a cave up top somewhere that Goretex was eyeing as a cool spot to camp for the night. Perhaps we could all meet up there, or at JD notch on Saturday. Sunday, we could head to Sugarloaf and loop back to the cars- I wanted to do the entire trail, especially since it was Indian head that banged up my knee in the first place, but with the toe being broken, I don't want to push it. If anyone else is a gimp and wants to join the gimp group, let me know- Artex, Pennsy, we gotsta arrange a meeting time and place somewhere along the trail so we can have the next olympics.
