Anybody got gear they want to trade or give away?
Yeah, its a cheeky question but I figured I'd try and ask it anyway....

I'm addicted to BP'ing and have very little gear, no money, and can'nt help but keep planning more trips despite the winter weather....

so, if you have anything - perhaps we could barter?

either that - or you are all rolling on the floor laughing hysterically at my sorry ass little plea

I've got a bunch
Actually I do have a lot of gear I want to get rid of, mainly because I'm out of storage space, and have accumulated a lot of stuff I don't use anymore.

So I've been trying to decide the best thing to do with it....so make your case, why should I give it to you?

Anyone else... what is the best possible use for my used (but in good shape) older gear? A lot is too big / heavy for use by a scout troop (adult size backpack, thermarest, etc).

Keep an eye out for the free gear thread. Also, Prowler was looking to get rid of a bunch of stuff. Can't remember the name of that thread. Something about lightening his pack.

Crazy Mike's on the case; you'll be All Set in no time. Do you prefer down or synthetic fill in your sleeping bag?

I'm in need of a water filter and stove. Looking for light gear, and trustworthy. Those are the only 2 things I could really use right now. I'm also looking to find a warmer sleeping bag, but am not in an immediate pinch for that.

Wanderer, (or anyone else...) if you have anything that fits my situation, I'd be more than happy to work with you. I'll check back here in a few.

I'll send you an email.....

Buddha Bear.... no offense intended here, but because of a bad past experience with the internet, I feel safer just telling you I live in the north east. Hope you understand.

What Don't I need....
hey gang,

gee, what don't i need???

number 1 on my wish list is a 0 degree mummy sleeping bag - I'm about 5'7" and slender - and a very cold sleeper - I'd also like for the bag to compress well and the lighter the better

i need a backpack - short torso - with comfy hipbelt - so I can stop renting from EMS

waterproof/windproof pants and/or jacket, stove, water filter, crampons (i wear size 8 Vasque sundowners?), a lightweight tent would be nice (mine weighs a ton - can sleep three - Walmart baby that has served me very well on car camping trips and one backpacking trip this summer - split between two carriers)

so as you can see - i need whatever I can get my hands on - not to worry, if anything comes my way - it will be well used and much loved!

looking forward to upcoming winter hikes

Chelle, you would be better served getting fitted for a pack and buying it new. Then you would have something that fits your body rather than somebody else's. Unless you found somebody pretty much your size who had a pack that fit you perfectly.

Otherwise you could end up with back or hip problems.

Check Sierra Trading Post online for some of your other needs. Some of their sales are fantastic. They have crampons on sale now, around $80 for the good ones and $59 for the regular ones. I would doubt somebody would have an extra set in your size, although it is possible.

thanks geobeet - problem is is that i am flat broke - just barely making all my bills right now - but am working on finding better work - and one day going back for a master in marine science - right now i'm a poor straving artist - dancr/choreographer.... that's why i am in essence - begging for gear

She's already experienced a little bit of that- She borrowed Maple's sleeping bag and fell in love with it last weekend- Plus, the mattress pad she slept on is the one I gave to Maple- I'm sure she'll get set up in no time.

hey - you wouldn't believe the amount of responses I've gotten! It's amazing - I am right now bartering a stove for some cookies!

and yes, I know everyone here shares - everyone I've met so far through BP'ing has been more than cool - and I can't wait until the day comes when I'm able to return the generosity....

do you want it or not? it an external frame, but more than adaquate for you. I sort of like the externals...they keep you cooler and you can strap on a heck of alot of stuff.

Are you interested?

Hey Stikmon,

Sorry for the lapse in response....I think I will pass on the external frame backpack....I'll keep renting until I find the 'pack of my dreams'! Thank you so much for your more than generous offer - perhaps someone else here needs the bag more than me at this time?

Be Well

NJ GEAR ALERT!!!
In my newspaper today was an ad for the grand opening of a LLBean in Flemington Liberty Village outlet center. I am so excited! Why? Bacause their boots are supposed to be pretty good, and this allows me to try them on. Or at least find a decent pair of shoelaces for my existing boots, LOL.

OK, it's not free, but.....
I have a womans Gregory Wind River pack that I'm trying to sell for a friend, it's an extra small, so the torso length should be around 14"/15.5", the pack is a tad over 5000 cu in, perfect for winter stuff. Its like new, except for the small hole where a critter got into the top pocket, easy to fix though. Last time I talker to her she wanted around $150.00...I'll check with her later today and see if thats the final price, its not free, but it's not bad.

Also any women out there that want a pair of almost new, Asolo Snowfield, 3 pin boots, size 5.5..she's selling those as well.
