Seam Sealer 3View MessagesViewing posts 1 to 11 of 11 messages posted.
“I bought some seam sealer 3 made by Kenyon. Does anybody have any thoughts on this subject. Is this a good brand? I've never seamed sealed a fly before. Anybody have any good direction or tips?” 7:22:53 PM 11/15/02 “You just daub it up and down the seams until they are well coated, let it dry, and test it in the first rain to see whether you got it all. If not, you let the fly dry off and redaub it where it leaks. It's pretty basic. There is not much you can do wrong. Just make sure you get it into the seam and over all the stitching. It forms a plasticy or hard rubbery seal and that is that. Best to set the thing up and do it at home, I learned the hard way. If you really wanted to test it, you could hose it down good once the seam seal dries.” 7:26:06 PM 11/15/02 Hear Me Now Believe Me Later “Dab talcum powder on sealer after it is dry or the dried stuff will stick to itself when you pack it in your stuffsac.” 7:36:54 PM 11/15/02 “thanks geobeet” 7:37:21 PM 11/15/02 Either... “You'll thank me later, bbinkley. Or you'll wish you'd've listened to me.” 9:50:50 PM 11/15/02 “Sounds like a good suggestion Buddur. I still have to do the fly of my backpacking tent so I'll try to keep that in mind.” 10:06:36 PM 11/15/02 Baking soda also works “Don't wait too long otherwise the Seam Sealer treated fabrics tend to stick together and it's hard to pull apart.” 10:34:21 PM 11/15/02 “I don't know about Seamsealer 3, but 2 might give you a buzz in a closed room--make sure you have plenty of ventilation, i thimk 8-}” 10:38:37 PM 11/15/02 thanks buddur “I will do that. Will baby powder work? I am just going to seam seal my fly. So i do that to the inside of the fly correct?” 11:58:01 PM 11/15/02 “i bought a tent that has (some) taped seams...not sure why they didn't do them all...i have some seam sealer 3 (i think, i don't have it with me)...i'm going to seal the untapped seams and hit the taped ones too for a little extra protection does anyone know if it has any kind of solvent or anything that will dissolve the adhesive of the tape?...i don't want to end up doing more harm than good” 7:05:28 AM 4/18/07 “If you're talking about Recoat3, I think you'll be all right.” 7:59:03 AM 4/18/07
