I would start with clothing/boots first as it is used on day hikes as well as trips. Second take a serious look at your skills. the better your skills are the less equipment you will need to compensate.

check out the ultra lite web sites. especially the gear lists.

dont bother with the titanium stuff for not, aluminum is almost as light.

try to borrow stuff before you buy anything. It is very hard to judge your needs without actual experiance.
