BB is right. Sorry Geo, patagonia is not on sale. REI MTS is. Good stuff too, worth a look.

Yes REI.com offers the same sale prices. This is one of our three largest sales of the year. I'm sure you'll find something you just can't live without on sale.

Limpy... just where should I Air Express your Java? Surface shipping would be cheaper, but it wold probably be cold by the time you get it.

Hey, thanks. I saw that MTS stuff. Looks to be roughly the same as the Capilene with a different name.

So if they don't have my size in the store I'll just go online - cool.

Limpy, you mean the Conshy store. Where you located?

Yea, I NEED a Western Mountaineering Antelope Super MicroFiber. Not quite 0 degrees, but close.
$385 + tax or shipping is a little high.

Rule number 1 if you going to be a gear ho...never buy gear unless it's on sale..

dig through bins
ask if that's the best deal
ask about upcoming sales
look at all 50 pages of the sierra outpost and campmor site

those are just a few to get you started

The real question is, how much can I afford to "save?"
Geobeet

"Saving" is pretty damned costly.

I know Geobeet. I got mine and wanted everything in it, just about. Lots of warm snuggling fleece crew necks. Oh well, I already bought stuff at Sierra Trading last month so I have to wait.

Let's see, so far this fall I've patronized STP, EMS, REI, and Mo's, not to mention some TTers who have provided gear at little or no cost.

And some other internet business for my forthcoming Photon III.

In the spring my gear list will be mostly new stuff. Pack is old but still very servicable, tent has been used one night, cookpot is the ol reliable unless I score a titanium before then, and the Thermarest has been around. The boots have some miles on them, but most everything else will be new (to me at least).

I will be a full-fledged, dues-paying member of the Ultra-Light Brigade, though probably looking for ways to trim even more pounds.

But I won't be carrying that heavy load I carried up Mount Minsi. At least not unless I'm heading out for a week or so.

It will be a revolutionary spring for me, and a great shake-down trip.

Cool Geobeet! Lets hope it only rains during the week this spring.
LyndyS

It can rain whenever it wants. I'm going anyway. It would not be the first time I got wet and won't be the last (I hope).

But if I were to get my druther, right, clear and sunny with great views.

But fog is interesting too, don't you think? You get an entirely different perspective on things in the fog. It limits the world we experience and I find my senses are heightened for the things going on close by - animal noises and such.

Sometimes rain is good for keeping the riff-raff out.

hey, cmb...
check out sierra trading post...they have snowshoes on sale,,,but if you hit up some garage sales, you might be able to find some old tennis rackets, then just by some good velcro strapping and bungie cords. Thats what I use here in south east missouri, we get tons of snow and I use these things to hike to work every day.

Yeah, 7:30 is about right. Could be earlier and could be later. Depends on how our deadline day goes.

If you see an old fat guy wearing black jacket and black Army baseball cap salivating over wicking turtlenecks and Pocket Rocket fuel, that would be me.
Geobeet

I hear the gear a-callin'; it's somewhere 'round the bend,
And I ain't seen the sunshine since I don't know when.
I'm stuck at Folsom Prison and time keeps draggin' on.
But that gear keeps callin' on up at REI.
Geobeet

As far as gear goes, at this point anything else I buy will be a replacement for something else I already have. But......

new gear kicks but!

REI, here I come!!

Good news: I'm getting out of work almost on time tonight (wonder of wonders).

Bad news: I will be long gone from REI when Stratusloop arrives around 7:30. Some other time dude.

As Bob Wills used to say, uhhh-huh!

Over the river and through the woods
To REI I go
It's not very near
But I need the gear
For spring on the Sods you know
