Meteor Magic
I got up at 3:30 this morning and met some friends to watch the meteor shower. Wow!! We all laid out in sleeping bags at a friends in a field on a farm north of Baltimore and had a wonderful time. We must have seen over 100 from 5 to 6 AM. Meanwhile owls were hooting in the woods on either side of us. I will never forget the experience.

Tired
Yeah, I'm whipped too. I'm looking forward to a nap.
Someone in our group remarked about how he went out to stargaze the nights following Sept. 11 because all planes were grounded and the night sky was clean. He said it was beautiful, but sad the way it came about.

No major showers this month.... just a few minor ones with rates of like 5/hour. The Leonids (~15+/hr) have been downgraded since their outburst a few years back, but between them and the other minor showers rates should be pretty good to just catch a few now and then when the Moon and the clouds get out of the way.... along with the background (sporadic) rate being at its maximum (~16/hr) each year about this time.

New Moon on the 9th.... Leonids peak the night of the 17th (Saturday) with a First quarter Moon setting about midnight....

Keep Looking Up!

No Leonids here this AM ----- Clouds instead.

Who's in Florida these days?  Om?   Bonecrusher?  Looks pretty clear down there at the moment from the current satellite pic.  If you've "got your ears on," you should stick your head out the window and take a peek.

metors are very common and can be seen any given clear night - so unless he was out at the right time, it's doubtful

Typically you can see about 1-20/hour any given clear night.

Could be.... You could get a star map, trace the path backward and see if it midght've originated at the top of Leo's head.
