Way to go Nigal. Too many good reasons to NOT start again. Hang in there.

Thats awesome Nige!!
like birch says, it's tough at first but it WILL get easier, and one of these days you'll get to the point where you wonder why you ever smoked to begin with!

Great job, Nigal.

Yes, sarge, he never should have started in the first place. But, at least he's quitting and that's hard work and something that deserves praise. Someday, you'll understand that, when you have to quit doing something you've been accustomed to doing for so long... like being an as@hole.

(and, yes, I know sarge is just trolling)

Hey Scorchy, you need to keep smoking until after you get back from Aruba, so that when you're on the beach with some native, you'll have something to stab into his eye when he tries to slip you a mickey.

Just another reason why I am so damn glad I quit!! Taxes suppose to go up. Some of the smokers could end up paying as much as $50 per month more for cigarettes.

I think it has been almost 3 years for me now. Or has it been 2 years? I lost time, but I think it's been 3. Hard to believe how fast time went buy.

So true Gem! Packs are up to $6.00 here. If Birch and I still smoked we'd be bankrupt or not eating, one or the other.

His last was at his best friend's funeral, almost 3 years ago.....mine was Jan 13 of 2003 or was it 2002? I still want them occasionally.

A week ago today, I started the no smoking pill called Chantix. Today, I am smoke free. Had my last cigarette sometime yesterday, and as of today, I am through. This pill works so far. I have not wanted a cigarette unless I saw it. No physical cravings that I have noticed, while taking this pill.

awesome. You can do it! Be a b!tch if you have to. I'd like to still know you when I'm seventy. I think we should cruise flea markets together, selling on ebay what our little houses won't hold. Deal?

Did S quit too?

LOL, Sass! Yes, S quit too. We both started at the same time. Two other people at work have quit using this pill and so has my Mother who has smoked since she was 12 or so.
It's a deal on the selling on Ebay! So long as one of us still has a hand steady enough to hold a camera and eyes good enough to use the computer.

The patch can be a real help also. No most doctors want you to start a script one month before your quit date and then start patches at the same time. Good for you on your eforts and I know you can do it.

Now if they only made a Corona patch...

Congrats. Did that 19 years ago. Tough first few weeks/months. Hang in there.

Each day I put the amount I would have spent on cigarettes in a coffee can. It added up nicely. More GEAR!

LOL at Nigal. Guess I could use one too! :-)

Thanks, everyone! So far, its been pretty easy.

Nigal, the patch never worked for me. Not only that, but I am using a pill that has no nicotine in it. So, I am ridding myself of nicotine while using a help aid.

I can't explain this pill. It just stops the part of the brain that wants nicotine from working, I guess. It is also a diet suppressor so I am not starving all of the time. Statistics show that 3 out of 5 who used this pill quit and stayed quit. Pretty good odds I would say. But I personally think that no matter how you get to be a non-smoker, just get there. Tarabull was hypnotized. She has stayed quit but that also might explain her. Yes, just explain her, period.

And I quit cold turkey on Nov 4th, 2005. No gimmicks. I had my last smoke after my GP Doctor said:

"I think it might be Lymphoma."

It's been right about 2 years since I touched my last smoke. Interesting that this thread pops up now. I was thinking yesterday that I think it was the 2 year date, but I don't really remember.

Quitting is one of the best things you can do for yourself. Congrats and good luck with your continued success.

I quit a year ago May. I'm glad I did, no regrets there. I gotta admit though, I bummed one this weekend around the campfire, just to remind myself why I quit... right... dang! What a head rush!

hardest thing for me is being around smokers now. I'm really glad that CO passed a smoking ban in all public buildings, so now i can go to bars and restaurants and not have to deal with it.

I've got a couple of friends that smoke, but the last time we hung out it wasn't a big deal.

i agree with roam. gosh it's bad if I am around my friends. Everytime I visit her I smell like smoke. I feel bad but I turn into one of THOSE! you know those ex smokers that complain more then someone who has never smoked before.

I'm sorry :(

Those who have hiked with me will be glad to know that I had my last cigar last night. I'm done. I'm doin ok so far, and I've been up 8 hours and haven't killed anyone, or even cracked and gotten rude.
I've decided I'm gonna really start covering some miles, and the trail and my girls are more important than my own self destructive ways. I've even been working out for a week. (so totally against my principles)

July 13 - one month before the Colorado trip - I quit smoking.

This is Day 4 - No cigarettes since July 12.

It's not been to bad actually. Less stressful really. The patches are little miracle drugs.

I used the patch and quit after 20+ years - I feel like i have a whole new body now.

It's been just over a full year since my last smoke. I was off and on for a couple of years, but the patch worked really well for me.
