ahhh rugby, a real man's sport. Used to play in high school and I still have scars to prove it.

Being on the receiving end of a good, old fashioned arse whupping ain't no fun nohow atall. 38-17 Navy.

Army led 17-3 at the half. The wind was blowing in our favor that half, so Navy had the wind at its back the second half and scored 35 unanswered points.

Never having seen a rugby match before, it was interesting. One guy in our party knew some of the rules and explained things during the game. That was helpful.

So in our group of vets, the losers congratulated the winners, we went out for eats, and went home friends ready for the big game in two weeks. Hopefully that one will turn out in our favor.

The most important thing I learned today was that never taking up rugby was a wise choice. But those kids have thighs that look like large drumsticks. I thought soccer players have legs, but these guys make soccer players' legs look skinny.

All I could think of was that if I were standing at the back of the scrum and the ball squirted right to me, I would be loathe to pick it up. Bad things happen to that dude!

The Navy hooker kept missing his kicks, or the score would have been even worse. Gotta love a sport that has hookers!

It was a great day to be out watching something new, having fun, being with friends, cracking bad jokes, and rooting for the team. Getting mugged when Navy scored by my friend's son was not fun. Dec. 7 the war resumes.

Our kids in both service academies are a fine bunch. One interesting sidelight is that in spite of school rivalries and service rivalries, there are never any problems. It's good to see the cadets and middies, especially the ones who get a day with parents, family, or significant others. It's just so much more than a mere game.

And to the ruggers in our midst, I haven't a clue whether to salute you or feel sorry for you. I hope your ears aren't too out of shape! If you played the way these kids played today, you probably got them pinned a few times. They left absolutely nothing on the field but some sweat, and perhaps a little skin.

Sorry to interrupt, but Ohio State just won the Big Ten Football Championship, and is playing for the national championship.

Have a nice day!

Wrong thread Buddha. Rugby here. Get back to the TT College Football Thread. No time outs in rugby. No commercial breaks. No pause between downs (no downs in this game). No pads. And no helping the other guy up after you level him.

Bad as this whupping was, they did better than the other team. They lost 38-10.

I coach two hish school teams - boys and girls. I'm tghe second XV manager for our club the Ormstown Saracens. I've been trying to retire for the last ten years, but they seem to need me on seconds. I like to say that I am the only 54 year-old, 165 pound, arthritic, asthmatic prop in league rugby today. The coach says the club will print a t-shirt with that on it for the next season.

Anybody going to the Saranac Lake Can-Am Tournament held the first full weekend in August?

How about your ears? How are they holding up?

Ears?
Actually, no too badly. I wind black electrician's tape around my head before the game. I used to go through a ritual of winding and rewinding so that it wouldn't stick to my hair, but sometimes it would pull off and now I just don't bother. Vaseline on the back of the neck helps, too.

It's that time again. Army-Navy rugby Saturday.

This game we have a chance of winning.

The weather looks good for tomorrow's match. It will be a good day to give blood.

Goooooooooo Army!

Army 17
Navy 17

It was like going to the prom with your sister (or brother, as the case may be).

Army was leading, 17-12 and could have kicked for three points, which would have required Navy to score twice. But they elected to run the ball instead and did not score.

With second remaining in injury time and Navy threatening at the door, Army proceeded to take about four straight penalties, and finally Navy was able to score.

The Navy kicker missed the extra points try.

Strange sport, rugby. But a lot of fun.

I get the sneaky feeling that I'm the only rugby fan on the board.
