Just got a note from my buddies wife today. He's been over seas for the better part of 18 months serving in the 82nd Airborne. 12 months in Kosovo as personal security for the General in charge of the entire 18th Airborne Corps. He's been in Aghanistan since June oher than a few wks of leave to bury his sister. Anyway On sept 9 his detachment was attcked near Khowst Afghanistan. Due to "heroic and selfless" actions he is being awarded the Bronze Star for bravery. He lead his men in the initial counterattack sustaining no friendly casualties while killing 5 and wounding 2 more (his detachment not him solely). I am so proud of him. I've known him for 23years served with him for a 4 month stint. Three cheers for SSGT Johnson!

I fell under the command of the 18th airborne corps when I was in- I know, it's huge- Good to hear your friend's okay, sounds like he really deserves that medal. Tell him a lot of people are proud.

Job well done, but I bet he doesn't think he did anything special. Just what had to be done.

Did the award carry a "V" device? Outstanding job in any event.

Your friend has done you, and the country proud.

I am glad he has the star. Even though the recognition isn't what its about, it does count for something. It's also great that he has firm and loyal friend like you (I'm remembering your post about the trip for his sister's funeral).

Tom , they call him "SGT J" or Obi Wan (if they feel lucky). He does an immatation of Obi to keep up morale. He will put on his poncho and walk quietly from bunker to bunker. At each he stops and reminds his men in his best Obi act that "you will stay awake or you will fill 1000 sandbags" they respond "we will stay awake or we will fill 1000 sandbags" the old Jedi Mindtrick.
