I hate my daypackView MessagesViewing posts 1 to 45 of 45 messages posted.
“have some heavy a$$ nike daypack that I bought in outlet store once. Don't like it very much. Then I bought the golite daypack. Not great either, the shoulder straps are, hmm, I don't know...just not on the right spot I guess. any ideas on daypacks? I have a golite pack that I will use for overnighters and the straps are just fine on it, but the daypack is just awful.” 12:44:42 PM 11/25/02 “I don't think I've ever had a day pack I've liked. They're usually too small for me.” 12:46:59 PM 11/25/02 “Take a look at the Camelbak packs. I have a Cloudwalker that holds 2 liters of liquid. It has plenty of room for a raincoat, lunch, first aid kit, etc.” 12:47:52 PM 11/25/02 “Gemini: I have a Skylark I want you to try. I will bring it to Tc2 with me, and you can dayhike with it. I let Jill borrow it when we did LeConte and she loved it.” 12:50:38 PM 11/25/02 “thank you all. I check them all out now. and thanks towndawg... :) all of the daypacks are really awfull, but I don't want to hike with a huge pack if I don't do an overnighter. Oh, I have found this one: http://www.altrec.com/shop/detail/12488/9/photo what ya'll think? it's a little on the heavy site, but this way I get used to the weight. (at least that's what I thought)” 12:55:54 PM 11/25/02 “Gemini, like MDSHiker, we use CamelBaks. For dayhiking I use a Peak Bagger, while Weezr has a Rim Runner. For mtn. biking and the commute to work I use a Cloud Walker. Mine have seen LOTS of use and abuse with no problems. Weezr's is new, but to date, she couldn't be more pleased. Unless someone was toting it for her!” 1:23:36 PM 11/25/02 “Gem..meant to tell you I grabbed one of the kids packs before heading out yesterday...I be darned if I was gonna be unprepared this time! (Left the ole waste pack at home) I want whine but lets say my arms are feeling it today! LOL Oh welly...” 1:38:55 PM 11/25/02 “hey crazy... I heard you are going to make it to the TC2...why did I not know about it?” 1:40:06 PM 11/25/02 “Oh you did? Who did you hear that from?” 1:45:12 PM 11/25/02 “LOL.. I'm in trouble now.. Crazygurl.. I am the one who told Gemini that.. we were talking a little while ago, and I mentioned that I thought I read that you had decided to come also. Anyways.. back to subject. I have a camelbak.. Good pack.. my Skylark is a better daypak.. the Camelpac is 'almost' a decent overnight pack. I got a third pak also.. its a 5300cube monster.. but I luv it.” 1:47:13 PM 11/25/02 1:50:34 PM 11/25/02 “it's the small day pack...let me find it...hmm, I don't even see it on the golite website anymore, wait... golite day pack not a great pack and I paid $50 for it. the straps are just, well I guess on the wrong spot. I would sell the golite daypack for $40 (plus shipping). I have never used it I also have the golite trek, and I really like this one, but it's too large for day hiking.” 2:06:41 PM 11/25/02 “lol.. u could always go the Eddie Bauer look.. complete with fanny pack and purchased bottled water.” 2:32:55 PM 11/25/02 “yupp towndawg, and carry a 30 lb pack, huh?? those "pretty" packs are super heavy...i already looked because it was the closest store around here. :) (not because I like eddie bauer)” 2:52:13 PM 11/25/02 “a 30lb. empty pack, I should've said.” 2:57:08 PM 11/25/02 “LMAO.. hehe.. well your post would stir up a lot of voices on the OTHER board.. cos they luv that brand for some reason, and JanSport too.. but I hear ya.. there are much better companies on the market. (I am going to resist the urge to say if you see this 'particular brand' being sold at this 'particular store' that surely that tells you something?)” 2:59:28 PM 11/25/02 “you're right on the money!! I learned a little bit by visiting this board. I am going lite, not superlight, but lite!! but you know, this particular store is my favorite store, but can't buy any backpacking gear there, well not unless you don't mind a 4 lb rain coat, and a 30 lb pack. (at least that's what they felt like)” 3:02:24 PM 11/25/02 “Junk Sport and Eddie Blobber.” 3:02:36 PM 11/25/02 “One of these particular stores.. who I won't name, but have it on good authority, told a guy to buy a precip, to put over his goretex.. cos the guy was complaining that his goretex wasn't shedding water.. Well duh!!.. its not a fricking raincoat!. Anyways.. hehe.. its the kind of stuff I enjoy telling.” 3:07:20 PM 11/25/02 lumberpack “i don't deal with shoulder straps for dayhiking. I love my lumberpack - its just a Coleman Exponent brand and was 35 bucks. It works for me!” 3:09:16 PM 11/25/02 “back to subject.. There are a lot of good packs out there.. you know that. A good store can tell you the merits and pitfalls of each and every one, with no bias other than their personal experiences.” 3:09:55 PM 11/25/02 “I've never really found a daypack that felt good right out of the box either. For that reason every one I own, I modified to fit me better. It's pretty easy to sew on your own shoulder straps and hipbelts and you wind up with a better feeling pack than you can ever find off the shelf. One on the problems with day packs is that they a generally short in the torso so the weight tends to hang off and too far from your back. If the pack is short to begin with there isn't much you can do to fix it, so I'd just rule those packs out if I was looking for one.” 3:11:39 PM 11/25/02 “I know. I'll try yours when I get to the TC2. Then I can decide what I want to buy. I may likes yours so much that I'll just disapear with it. LOL smokeygirl: no sholderstrap??? I am confused... how do you carry your pack? (maybe i am using the wrong word for those things that keep your pack on your back???)” 3:12:03 PM 11/25/02 I just got this pack... 3:13:14 PM 11/25/02 “SmokyGirl is tough.. she just carries it in her teeth! :)... heya girl.. glad you survived the rain and crap up on the road to nowhere last week.” 3:14:31 PM 11/25/02 “the daypack I have is called a lumberpack because it has a hip belt and no shoulder straps. You can turn it into a bag with a single strap that comes with it, and it has a nice handle on it to carry it.” 3:14:32 PM 11/25/02 “LOL!! I really like that area of the park, and the snow up on the AT was beautiful. Its too bad I couldn't stay up there longer! Weeeeee!!” 3:16:01 PM 11/25/02 3:16:56 PM 11/25/02 “Osprey is excellent.. :).. they have a large line from large to small.. The Skylark I mentioned is made by them.” 3:20:02 PM 11/25/02 “yeah towndawg, you just don't want me to run away with yours. but I did check the osprey, and it does look good, lite too.” 3:22:05 PM 11/25/02 “Gemini: lol.. bring some spare gear.. I might have to trade ya something.. We might have us a regular flea market going on.” 3:25:06 PM 11/25/02 “ehhh, that sounds like fun. I bring all my stuff. TC2 fleamarket.” 3:27:19 PM 11/25/02 “I use a Burton SNWBRDS day pack. I think it is for snowboarding, but as a daypack, it kicks tail. Good fit, roomy, but not so big that I end up weighing myself down.” 3:36:19 PM 11/25/02 “Osprey Skylark I suspect there will be a lot of gear discussions.. trading.. tossing out for sale, etc.” 3:43:26 PM 11/25/02 Gemini... 3:43:33 PM 11/25/02 Link 3:43:36 PM 11/25/02 “Oh my goodness...........IT WORKED!!” 3:44:25 PM 11/25/02 “oh woah...so many packs to look at. I'll check them all out, then I'll try towndawgs, and run away with it. If he catches me I think I will decide on one of those osprey. they even look like the feel good on your back. thanks guys..” 4:40:23 PM 11/25/02 “hehe.. well hey.. never know -- the pack may look good enuff on ya, that I just let you take it home.” 5:49:01 PM 11/25/02 “oh boy...I'm blushing... don't know what to say. still have to ask hubby...but I don't think he will be a problem. oh, and the kids...yes, maybe I will bring them if there lots of kids.” 5:51:44 PM 11/25/02 hubby???? kids??? “guys...she's taken, spoken for, not available... ROFLMAO!!!! ahahahahahaha...all you dudes that were getting excited over the chance of droolin over gemini, are now shot down!!! hahahahahaha.” 9:00:00 AM 11/26/02 “hey.. since when does drooling exclude spoken for?” 9:42:45 AM 11/26/02 “drooling going on over here? It's been so long since someone drooled over me LOL stikmon, you've must've missed something. I told everyone here that in about 4 month I will be a grandma...so yes, I do have kids :)” 9:59:55 AM 11/26/02 “and 'sides.. I'll drool if I want, Stikmon.. I don't need your approval. :)..” 10:08:24 AM 11/26/02 “While I wouldn't endorse the Jansport packs that are simply glorified book bags, I do like my Jansport Dartfrog day pack. Very well organized and comfortable design -- very versatile, to the point of being capable of an ultralite overnight. Sunshine has one, too, and says she has been happy with it as well.” 10:14:50 AM 11/26/02
