Hey all, I'm looking into doing a snowshoe/hike out a Pictured Rocks NF in MI. I'm just trying to generate interest, and see if some folks have off during those times (many school systems are out until then).

Any interest? Post here, maybe we can get something going.

12/26 - 12/31: are those the days you wanna be on the trail or does that include driving?

not sure i'll have a pair of snow shoes by then, but it sure sounds fun.

let's keep talking about it...

Interested here as well. I'd have to be back for New Years Eve, though. Looks like I might be able to leave the day after Christmas, morning or early afternoon.

I think that I can swing something also I think it would be great to do some snow hiking up there at that time of year.

My brother and I were thinking of doing this hike, same general time and place. He's already got it off, I don't know my schedule yet.

I always wanted to hike 12 mile beach in the winter...

Please keep me advised!

I talked to my brother this weekend. He'll likely go there (PR) in that general time frame. He's also been wanting to snowshoe to Grand Island for years.
I'd love to go, and it looks like I may be able to, if I don't have to work.

The whole thing is 42 miles. I bet the scenery in winter would be awesome. I'm a little worried some of the shoreline may be difficult with ice but there are trails more inland we could use if we had to.

Anyone else finding it workable?

It's too long of a trip for me. I've got some stuff I need to take care of during Xmas break, aside from hiking. I'm looking at a 3 night trip, tops. Maybe we can meet you part way, or catch you all another trip.

I think you guys are awfully brave to hike so close to Superior in December! Doubt you'd ever catch me there. You never know what that beast will stir up. Be safe out there!

Plus, I'm headed to a warmer climate after Christmas. :)

Have a back-up plan, just in case. I've had to spend the night in Mackinaw City 'cause the bridge was closed. I've also had to spend the night in Marquette (trying to get back to HOughton) cause the snow was way too much for us to keep going. It NEVER fails, there is always a huge storm as the students are headed back to school.

Sorry if I'm annoying you all, its either the mother in me, or the wuss. :)

Not because of what SG said, but I'm thinking I might not be outfitted fer this. I don't think I have enough experiance to hang on this trip. I don't want to wake up looking like Jack Torance :) If I grow some balls, I'll be in, but it's not looking good.

I have to bow out as well, I don't think my knee is up for that sort of hiking right now, especailly after AFT trip this week.

The curse continues.....I try to plana trip, and can't go.

I just ate up a couple vaca days for a funeral so I'm not gonna be able to take off for too long. A long weekend may work.

And... I'm a bit scared of hiking along the big lake they called "Gitche Gumee" in the dead of winter. Call me a wuss, but I'm not sure that's the type of winter hiking I'm prepared for.

Le Subtil - if you and your bro decide to hike a bit more south, lemme know. I may be interested.
