fleece at old navy

“the base layer thread reminded me of a qustion I wanted to ask last week but forgot.
Old navy has this special right now on fleece turtle necks. I think they are $16.99. I did not check them out yet, so I don't know how thick they are. Well, here my question: will any fleece do, or is the mature $$$$ fleece at all those hiking sites a special treaded fleece?

I hate to spend $60 for a shirt if I can get it for $16, you help would be appriciated and rewarded with some gluewine at the tc2 :)”

“I bought the 16.50 performance fleece this weekend at Old Navy and I love it! I wore a long sleeve thin shirt under it and it kept me warm. I havent tested it out in real cold weather yet. I also bought the Old Navy parka for $36 and its great! It's really warm.”

“Gemini - I got a really nice fleece jacket at Campmor a few months back for $20. Another bonus which I discovered post-purchase was that it zips into my North Face shell perfectly. But if you can get a fleece jacket at Walmart for 6 bucks like Stovestomper did, that's a heckuva bargain!

“At the end of last years hunting seasons, Wal Mart had a large rack of hooded fleece pullovers in a gray/white camo pattern. I think the camo was for snow conditions. It snows down here about once ever five years. I got ten of them for $6 each. Gave most of them to the family.”

“again, it's not my size. sassy maybe, but it won't look sassy if i drowned in it. A medium is okay, but a large? hmm, I think it just will be too big. most of my cloth I order online are just too large (I am only 5' 2") I guess I just don't have the hang of it yet on how to order cloth online.

I think I am going to check out the stores tomorrow. Artex, it's not that I don't have any "cool" real hiking cloth yet, I do :) but I think some fleece for the pack (or emergengies) would not hurt. $6 or $16 is a great price even with the "old navy" logo on it. (and that from someone that's really not an old navy fan at all)”

“I dont know about the Old Navy where you live Gemini, but the one here had plenty of fleeces over the weekend. They have the half zip performance fleece for 16.50 and the double fleece jacket for 24.00. They have all colors and sizes. I'm small, but I had to get a large because they are made small.”

I love Marmot's Micro-T. It is like 5x as much as old navy, but I'm never happy unless I get exactly what I want. Patagonia's Regulator series kicks all forms of ass, also!

but i got a faded glory fleece pullover from goodwill for $5, and it seems like good stuff, also got a double layer jacket made for me (mom sewed it up for me years ago) that is really warm, both have held up great so far, had the jacket for years, but the pullover is new (at least to me) im thinking about making a neck gaiter/hat outta some old scraps from the jacket

im a broke college kid, i go where stuff is the absoloute cheapest- found some ripstop nylon for $1 a yard on sale at walmart...got teh brainy idea of mabye trying out some of the online backpack patterns to make for a few friends who have expressed intrest in starting some backpacking...hmmm

“Old Navy fleece is nice for the price and works fine as an insulation layer. However, ON in windy conditions are useless and would recommend investing in a high quality windproof shell. It surprised me the difference between ON's fleece and several other brands.”

I have had both Campmor fleece and Old navy fleece wear out on me. (Surprise, they both suck ;) ) Elbows, within a year on both. REI polartech hangs in much better.”

“okay, I got me a couple. Will use them as base layer. I do have a windstopper, I think I have even 2 windstoppers, so I should be fine. The thinner fleece from ON is thin enough to use it as a base layer.
the others I bougth are still okay for a base layer as long as I have the windstopper material on top. (I think).
I bought the northplace fleece vest a couple of weeks ago, well, it looks good, fits good, but the fleece is pretty thin too, paid $70 for that thing. I have not tried it out yet, but it better be worth the money!!! I'll guess we'll see!
