“I went and saw the movie EIGHT MILE over the weekend. What a great movie. Eminem was great in this movie. Did anyone else see it? (probably not, what are the demographics of this board?)” 2:21:16 PM 12/03/02 “I want to see it but I'm not a movie goer, I always wait for the video.” 2:43:41 PM 12/03/02 “I won't come within eight miles of this movie. Ha! I kill me!” 2:46:00 PM 12/03/02 “I saw it over the Thanksgiving weekend as well. I though it was a pretty good movie. I loved knowing all the references in the movie, 313, 810 (area codes that are divided by 8 mile - I'm from 810, btw), Cranbrook - the private school, JLB - the radio station. The movie was about how a young talented kid rose up out of the crap he was stuck in. I thought Eminem was pretty good.” 2:51:48 PM 12/03/02 “Isn’t that one of them new fangled moving picture shows staring that potty-mouthed rapper feller?” 3:14:19 PM 12/03/02 “Yes Violin!!But it's more than just about that.” 3:20:09 PM 12/03/02 “LOL! i love new fangled moving picture shows staring that potty-mouthed rapper feller. not that i've seen it...but i'm going to! even though it's apparently "more than just about that."” 3:21:55 PM 12/03/02 “"The movie was about how a young talented kid rose up out of the crap he was stuck in." a young talented kid? this cannot be Mr Mathers!” 6:30:09 PM 12/03/02 bblinky “I saw this one, it really was aGREAT movie. F*** that Slutty blond B***.” 6:53:39 PM 12/03/02 “I agree Prowler.” 6:55:14 PM 12/03/02 “Eminem is very talented. Just listen to the stuff he comes up with. Okay, he has a pottymouth, but they, we all do sometimes. I love this music, my kids even love the edited versions they play on the radio. I have his cd's, but don't play them when the kids are around. Heard alot of good things about the movie, can't wait until is out on video. Won't go in the movies for it because I have to screen it...checking if the kids can see it. (I have a feeling that it's probably not a kids movie...) :)” 7:57:55 PM 12/03/02 “no the kids shouldn't watch it” 8:00:38 PM 12/03/02 “There's a new song...I forgot who sings it...it's titled, "If You Can't Dance, Rap".” 9:41:55 PM 12/03/02 “"Young talented kid?!" He's 30!” 9:43:31 PM 12/03/02 “Geeezzz - BB, When you come up here, I'll show you 8 mile. It's about 4 blocks away. Shoulda saved yer money. Mr. Mathers is a #&%!$ pusher and wouldn't be noticed if it weren't for the great rap intelligence of Dr. Dre. His "rise" is not like it was in the movies, granted this "movie" is loosey based on his situation. That's the only way they could make it interesting. Next time you're in the 248, I'll takes you on a tour of the 313 and show you where the REAL #&%!$ is.” 9:53:33 PM 12/03/02 “Gosh, Bbinkley's already seen the 248 and the 734. If we take him on a tour of the 313, he'll still need a tour of the 810. And that's just Detroit! Guess he's seen some of the 231 and the 616, also. :) Oh, he definintly needs to see the 906!” 7:13:49 AM 12/04/02 “rl, checking in from the 517... But I grew up in the 313... And I know a teacher at Cranbrook. They must love this movie. Nothing better than steamy grates on an 85 degree day. Detroit!” 7:50:05 AM 12/04/02 “Hi RL! Didn't know you were in the 517. Thought you were part of the 734. How are things way over in the 920? Technically, I grew up in the 313. But then it changed to the 810. Now its the 586.” 7:54:26 AM 12/04/02 “Over the weekend, Reino and I managed to slip into the Detroit burbs for a quick lunch with her sister in Centerline, one block north of 10 Mile. However, we had to get off 696 one exit early because VanDyke exit was closed -- okay, but then 10 mile and 9 Mile were blocked by cop cars and barricades -- what the F#$&? Hostage situation at a convenience store? Chemical spill at a plant? No, turns out it was a Thanksgiving Parade down VanDyke. We had to go down to 8 Mile itself and east to Hoover and then sneak into the residential streets between 10 and 10 1/2 Mile. Then during lunch my sister-in-law responded to our description of ending up on 8 Mile, which brought up Eminem, "Oh, he lived next door (before we moved in) for awhile, staying with his friend's family." It's part of the neighborhood lore now. One day he and the other boy put speakers on the flat roof and were blasting music. The neighbor on the other side came out with a shotgun and said that if they didn't take the speakers down, he was going to shoot them down. The speakers came down. She said he was just the Mathers boy then.” 8:38:07 AM 12/04/02 Didn't forget the Mountaineers... “...I did think of smiley girl and birch and sass when I passed the Novi and Livonia exits, respectively.” 8:47:05 AM 12/04/02 Saw it... “For a fat bald 50ish white redneck who hates most rap to say I liked the movie says something... I have to agree with the critics, the movie was good....” 8:49:13 AM 12/04/02 Don't forget about Tarabull and Q! “well, Pekka, Sass, Birch, and I were all out of town anyway! heck you prolly passed right by Q's house if you drove across 696! i was planning to visit the great Cheeseland over the holidays to see some friends, but my travels will take me elsewhere this year. maybe when my friends make another visit from their temporary home in China, i'll try to plan another trip over.” 8:53:01 AM 12/04/02 “On I-696, my exit would be M-1 or Woodard as it's know :) . From my house, on a nice summer's night, you can hear'em in da hood, test firing all there neat little automatic rifles. Like 4th of July all year 'round =O” 11:28:02 AM 12/04/02 “*reminder to self: never visit Q's house!*” 11:28:49 AM 12/04/02 “Well we were close, Q. We took a brief pause at downtown Royal Oak (that's basically the Woodward exit isn't it?) for some shopping at Icognito and some Oysters Rockafeller at the oyster bar across the street. Then it was back to Ann Arbor to pick up El Kabong from her dad's. Didn't mean to overlook anyone's exit -- I just didn't know where exactly Tarabull and Q lived in the greater Detroit metroplex.” 1:25:36 PM 12/04/02 “pekka - you were 3 minutes away from me. Icognito is an old family fav and I've never been in Tom's, I've heard great things. Hope you had fun. Royal Joke ( :) ) is "neat", but a little too trending nowadays. Next time your in 'da hood, feel free to email me and let me know! Suprise vists are always welcome!” 10:36:30 PM 12/04/02 "Royal Oak is TRENDY? “Dambit, that place was a pit when I lived in Huntington Woods back in the 8th grade...(Oak Park Jr. High!)..... We would lie awake at night listening to the sirens as the RO Cops raided the hamburger stands...Some jokers were selling drugs through the drive throughs back then....” 8:16:27 AM 12/05/02 “Don't feel bad, pekka. None of the exits on 696 are "my" exits. I certainly didn't feel like you left me out. However, if you had been driving on M-5 and didn't mention my name... then I'd be really ticked off. ;-) SG - Mr. Binkely, did, in fact, see 313... When he was in town for the Jordan trip, he visited the downtown casinos. So, it may be safe to say he's seen all but two of MI's area codes. For the record, I grew up in 313. Then, moved out here. Which was still 313 back in 1980. Then, it became 810, now it's 248. And, there's a new area code, but I don't know what it is. What sucks is that instead of splitting up the 248 codes, like they've done in the past, they're giving the new code to the new phone numbers. So, we must ALWAYS dial 1+area code now...even if I want to call my next door neighbor, which I did last night. It's very terrible planning as far as I'm concerned. Oh yea, and something else... I agree w/ Q. I don't like eminem or anything he has to say. Don't get me wrong, if I hear a song, I may tap my foot or something, but that sure as heck doesn't mean I enjoy his music. It bothers me that when I tell people where I live, they associate it w/ him. Can someone please tell me what makes him talented?” 8:32:23 AM 12/05/02 “Q -- the oysters at Tom's were great, but you better like them a lot at $2 each for the Rockafeller style. A real treat in a hectic vacation trip. One of the upsides of a trip where we were briefly trapped in an elevator at our first motel in A-Square, then had our car die a quarter mile from our Ann Arbor exit on 94 while returning from Warren/Centerline (got a push from a very professional and polite state trooper -- that's a rush, driving dead stick on the shoulder of 94 powered by a big blue squad car with flashing lights while two lanes of roaring traffic stream by). I grew up mostly in 616, but spent time in 517, though now one of my old 517 stomping grounds is suddenly 989, and my folks and brother in southern 616 are now something else that I haven't gotten memorized. Then there were my years in 906 before sliding down across the border to 715.” 9:33:22 AM 12/05/02 “Super Troll - Did you go to Berkley High School? If so, when did you graduate? I did in '87. BTW - If you have not been around here in a while, You'd be suprised what has happened to Royal Joke.....” 9:41:30 AM 12/05/02 No bet “No high school, we moved to the South when I entered the 9th grade... Haven't been back since...I just remember that the RO area was a bad part of town back then...” 9:53:04 AM 12/05/02 “Eminem home bidder reneges on $100 million offer Homeowner claims he has other offers for about $2 million By Gene Schabath / The Detroit News STERLING HEIGHTS -- Will bidders for Slim Shady's old house on eBay please stand up -- and pay the $99.9 million bill? Nope. When it comes to owning the world's most opulent Eminem collectible -- his old house in Sterling Heights, with a swimming pool and Jacuzzi in tow -- rabid fans bid top dollar. But the joke's on eBay, which can't get anybody to pay. The $99.9 million bidder for the home on Hayes welched on the deal, and the next-highest bidder is expected to back out, too. The first suitor, from New York, told the home's current owner, Darren Martens, in an e-mail that the bidding just got out of hand. "He said he talked to his bank and they wouldn't let him borrow that much," Martens said of the would-be buyer of the 5,000-square-foot colonial that Eminem sold for $475,000 because kids were stealing his mailbox and leaving M&M candy wrappers on his lawn. Martens, an auto executive who calls himself a skeptic, said he never took the $99 million bid seriously. That said, he also is writing off the next-higher eBay bid of $20 million because he thinks that amount is outlandish, too. But his business acumen tells him the lower bidders -- people with $2 million to spend -- have a sincere interest in taking the home off his hands. "We think we have some real bonafide offers at $2 million," Martens said. Eminem lived in the home between 1998 and 2000, but the house was vacant for months before Martens bought it. Martens said he put Eminem's house on eBay "more or less for a joke" after he saw publicity about a boyhood home of Eminem on Timken in south Warren, also on eBay, that so far has fetched a high bid of $11 million. Now comes news that a third former Eminem house -- this one on Dresden in Detroit -- is on the block on eBay. Apparently the $500,000 opening bid is so steep for a 57-year-old house that the joke isn't even funny to collectors. There are no bidders yet -- real or fake.” 11:57:21 AM 12/05/02 Too rich for your blood? 11:58:58 AM 12/05/02
