Lee - I live in Maine. I grew up in New England, don't tell me what it is like here. I don't understand why you said I was wrong about the cost of hunting then told me that you brother in AK spent a lot of money hunting 1 deer.

Violin- I am sorry I called it off early but I'll be milking my coes soon so I wanted to go off on a good note. Also twigeater lives just a couple of hours north of me. I didn't want him to actually come and camp in my.. oops.. OUR front yard.

Since you know so much about coes, rox - we're in the market for a leather couch. What should we be looking for as far as grade, etc.?

To me "deer camp" jokes are just funny stories - I don't know anyone who actually does any of that stuff and few who even go to a camp to hunt. The people I hunted with wouldn't consider drinking before (a drink at 3 or 4am?) or during the hunt and if they did after, I didn't know about it. And of course, I didn't drink when I was out alone either.

In the few years I hunted I never shot anything, but it was hard work. Sunrise to sunset is a long day, especially when you only stop long enough to eat a sandwich, and that gun gets damn heavy before too long. Many times I fell asleep in the truck at noon, too pooped to pop! Plus if you're sitting it's freezing cold and if you're walking, it's for miles and miles...
Gimme fishing anyday.

Oh bite me rox, I'm female, and if I wanna camp in someone's yard it'll be MY own yard - I sure won't be heading any further south than I am.

I'm so confused! I have to leave now and go to the gym (where there's no confusion about who's a girl and who's a guy, lol).

Ya know, even though I know twigeater personally, I don't want to appear to be taking sides here..

But...

I have a friend in Portland who has commented on more than one occasion about an alleged tranvestite population there.

By going to the Gym do you mean chopping a cord of wood and haulin it next to the trailer.

Santarex, where are you from?
rox

Tom, you got it right. I do in fact, hunt.

And Rox, along w/ Sass and Birch, you can add me to the list of hunters you know who process their own animal. Just like Sass said, it's hard work, but it's worth it.

Also Rox, people really do NEED to add game to their diets for financial reasons. It is absolutely necessary for me and mine to do this. Much like Ped said, the heating costs go way, way up in an MT winter and that extra money has to come from somewhere. At my house, it comes from the grocery money and I make it up by adding low-cost game and cutting out high-cost beef. As far as the geothermal heating . . . if you want to pay for installing a new heating system on my home and adding some weather proofing, I'd more than appreciate it. Unfortunately, not everyone in your cute world has the money to do such things, so they make it work as best they can.

Don't want to appear like you're taking sides! you better be taking my side Mr Artex! (don't forget the little matter of a winter trip, you wanna be the first in the snow bank - huh?) j/k! Yeah there's some pretty strange goings on in Portland, I stay faarrr away from there...

Already did that rox, whaddya think anyway, it's December alrady!

I nearly forgot to address BB’s gibberish about how killing deer helps donate food to the hungry. This is only a clever public relations gimmick to try to place a halo around those who murder animals for kicks.

i'm a master at making deer jerky.

i once worked at a meat processing plant, it really sucked. i feel ethical hunting is a healthier and more humane way to acquire meat. i don't hunt myself.

Oh and Sass - on the hunting in Metroparks:

"While Michigan offers widespread opportunities to hunt and fish, more could be done to encourage participation, especially in high population centers. All divisions within the DNR should work together, making hunting and fishing more accessible on both public and private lands. Where possible, expand opportunities to hunt and fish within urban parks and recreation areas."

Rox, I don't know where the confusion came in, but I am a guy. "Hymen" ... that was funny. For as long as I have been using the Hyway user name, noone has ever used hymen as a dig before. That was pretty good.

I gotta gun they all call maw-bell
it shoots flat out and true as hell
I don`t even know why I`m tellin` you this
but, honest Injun, I almost never ever miss
maw-bell has held up real well and always done me good
a lota meat fell to that bit of steel and hunk of wood
if not for maw-bell there`d be times we didn`t have as much to eat
add me to the list, I`m another one that processes my own deer meat
I have milked my share of cows, but never shaged any wool
I was raised on a workin` farm, I could take you to school
but, those of us that know the truth of it seldome have time to teach
why is it the ones that don`t do it, think they have a right to preach
I started to tell you the why of it all, but I think I`ll just pass
you wouldn`t hear it anyway, you got you head to far up your own ass
