Since there is a preponderance of Hippie talk happening at the moment....

Hippie chicks are hot!

My last two serious g/f's were hippie wannabe's. My college g/f stopped shaving her legs, and announced she was going to teach mentally handicapped kids in China..... she couldn't speak Chinese, and was a senior studying accounting... go figure.

correction Mapleleaf: Hippie chicks from the 60's are now grandmothers. Their daughters rebelled against them in the 80's and became Yuppies. Their grandaughters rebelled against their yuppie parents and are now hippie-chicks. There's still hope Buddha Bear, they're just Gen-Y Hippie Chicks now!

Maple, most hippie chicks are middle age chicks now but there are a few young hippie chicks around.

My daughter has a friend who is 21 and she would have fit in perfectly in the late 60's and early 70's. She acts and dresses like what was worn back then. She also listens to the same music I grew up with.
When ever we see each other see is always asking me questions about how things were back then.

yeah, i'm a baby. i shave my armpits when inspiration strikes! it's more a question of laziness and whether they'll be visible rather than like, feminism or whatever. ha! ;-) one of my roommates NEVER did, on principle...she always said they were like soft, furry hamsters. LMAO!! she's like the funniest person (mostly on accident) you'd ever meet.

Biz's theory:

'Hippie' was unique to the extraordinary times experienced in the 60's and 70's...and cannot be replicated today. When the X-generation young people (of which I am a member) try to mimic this, it seems ridiculous. This is neither the time nor the place. To all hippie wannabes I say 'get a life and start your own original darn movement!'

We could call ourselves Bushies

I had a mountain-biking, dirtbag, "unshorn" girlfriend who lived in a house with about 7 other people in Bozeman, MT about 12 years ago. She was the last true hippie-chick I knew. She bought all her clothes at Goodwill and ate brown rice and lentils and stuff and had a crappy, old car she never drove. I think she married some rich guy who owns a micro-brewery.
She was cool.

I think Pennsy Hiker, GForce, and Cow Pattie could tell you an interesting story about a hippie chick with a Dr. Seuss hat in the White Mountains.

I've never really dated a full-on hippie chick, but my last long term girlfriend was a Wiccan, which is probably even worse. But there's something very alluring about a Goth chick if she's hot. ;-)

I had a hippie chick friend once. She told me that when she got married, it would be a marriage to all her friends and we would all eat XTC together and there would be doves and an open field. It was rather strange and after I told her I didn't really have any interest in such a union, we didn't really hang out anymore.

Hey Biz - You're absolutely right, about how ridiculous it seems, for the Xers to try and reproduce the 60s / 70s culture, in a completely different era. Has it really "all been done before". Surely there's an original identity out there, for them, somewhere.

What's really amusing is watching the young Asian, East Indian and white kids, driving around up here, pretending that they're urban American black kids.

Hope that doesn't offend anyone..... just an observation

A bunch of friends and I are neo-hippies. We're all left wing, wal*mart haters who avoid supporting oppressive corporations. We look for fair-trade goods (clothes, coffee, food, etc.). And we are bohemian activists. No, I don't wear paisleys and tie die all the time. Being a hippie is more a way of life and attitude than external tokens.
Peace,

i just try to be a generalist, i do my best to have a hand in everything- backpacking, but cars; math and science, but mindless labor; conservationism (sp), but lumberjacking+woodwork; athletics, but movies; engineering, but cooking+sewing; nerd, but redneck; electronics, but simplicity- im pretty much what a y-er is said to be, have a piece of it all, thats what we are. i dont much go for extremists, i like girls with sense, (no offense to anyone intended) the last girl i was after is quite an eco-freak, vegetarian, conservationist, but she's very much a thinker about it all, thats what i like. :)

im a jack of all trades, and master of none.

its all fun and games till someone looses an eye, then its all fun and games ya cant see! :D

It's The Real Thing Baby...Yeahhhhhhh!
Although I too believe "Hippie" is a late-60s>early70s term, the attitude, beliefs and actions of some are very similar still to this day. That shows how much of a fad it wasn't.

Now bring on the Freeee Loooove!
