YUP! It's Official! I just got the Alert from the Weather Channel: less than a quarter-inch of ice (Maybe), and it's going to melt very quickly. But the last bit is the kicker....

ANY TRAVEL IS STRONGLY DISCOURAGED. IF YOU LEAVE THE SAFETY OF BEING INDOORS..YOU ARE PUTTING YOUR LIFE AT RISK.

How about if I wear a helmet?

If you go down in the woods today,
You'd better not go alone.
It's lovely down in the woods today,
But safer to stay at home....

The day after I got my driver's license we had a very heavy snowstorm with a thin underlayer of ice. They didn't cancel school (Michigan) and my parents made me drive. Much to my suprise, it was fun. Crunchy snow!

There was no one in the grocery store here in NJ today. Nor the Home Depot, the bank or the WalMart. Just an ordinary day with some snow forecasted.

I'm really hoping that the storm tracks further north and we get a foot of snow. The kids really want to spend some time sledding. I just wish I had snowshoes. This might just be the winter for them.

Geo, hadda go check first, try this:

Yeah, come on all of you, big strong men,
Uncle Sam needs your help again.
He's got himself in a terrible jam
Way down yonder in Vietnam
So put down your books and pick up a gun,
We're gonna have a whole lotta fun.

chorus:
And it's one, two, three,
What are we fighting for ?
Don't ask me, I don't give a damn,
Next stop is Vietnam;
And it's five, six, seven,
Open up the pearly gates,
Well there ain't no time to wonder why,
Whoopee! we're all gonna die.

Well, come on generals, let's move fast;
Your big chance has come at last.
Gotta go out and get those reds —
The only good commie is the one who's dead
And you know that peace can only be won
When we've blown 'em all to kingdom come.

(chorus)

Well, come on Wall Street, don't move slow,
Why man, this is war au-go-go.
There's plenty good money to be made
By supplying the Army with the tools of the trade,
Just hope and pray that if they drop the bomb,
They drop it on the Viet Cong.

(chorus)

Well, come on mothers throughout the land,
Pack your boys off to Vietnam.
Come on fathers, don't hesitate,
Send 'em off before it's too late.
Be the first one on your block
To have your boy come home in a box.

(chorus)

That was one of the songs Adrian Cronhaeur(sp) was censored for.

School is being let out early but we are on the end of the bus heirarchy. I'll probably end up going to school and picking the kids up, because by the time 1:15 comes when they will board a bus, we'll have several inches of snow on the ground.

What's up with this board? All the threads seem to alternate between snowfall and 60s flashbacks (interspersed with the occasional knockdown-drag-out).

okay G-beet. We teased 'em enough with the teddy bear references. Here's the 'compleat' lyric:

If you go down in the woods today,
You're sure of a big surprise.
If you go down in the woods today,
You'd better go in disguise.

For every bear that ever there was
Will gather there for certain because
Today's the day the Teddy Bears have their picnic.

Every Teddy Bear who's been good
Is sure of a treat today.
There's lots of marvelous things to eat
And wonderful games to play.

Beneath the trees where nobody sees
They'll hide and seek as long as they please
'Cause that's the way the Teddy Bears have their picnic.

If you go down in the woods today,
You'd better not go alone.
It's lovely down in the woods today,
But safer to stay at home.

For every bear that ever there was
Will gather there for certain because
Today's the day the Teddy Bears have their picnic.

Picnic time for Teddy Bears...
The little Teddy Bears are having a lovely time today.
Watch them, catch them unawares,
And see them picnic on their holiday.

See them gaily gad about.
They love to play and shout.
They never have any care.

At six o'clock their Mummies and Daddies
Will take them home to bed,
Because they're tired little Teddy Bears.

I did see a guy try to pull that '360s in the icy parking lot' routine once in a VW Beetle. He did about 3, hit a spot of clear asphalt and went shooting off in a random direction into 2 parked cars: a Benz and a Jag. I think he might STILL be paying for that, LOL

I don't know, the trees were spinning by so fast I couldn't figure it out. I just kept turning into the skid, backing off the gas, then trying to get the car going forward again. It's fun driving up a hill sideways and seeing the horror-stricken look on the faces of drivers headed the other way.
