I have been lurking in TT for several weeks now. In many posts I have seen people writing about geocaching. My curiosity was aroused and I have finally done some investigating. From what I have seen this looks like a lot of fun and I want to participate.

However, I am ignorant on GPS equipment. I want to do some research on which GPS unit gives the "best bang for the buck."

Any suggestions on where to look?

Go here. This is where caches are posted. They have all kinds of stuff, including places to buy the GPS units (at a discount, I see it says) and forums to discuss what to buy.

Target has the basic yellow Garmin e-trex on sale for $89....that's what I'm using and it's pretty accurate :)

Here is another place to look Groundspeak it's the forum for Geocaching.com.

I would begin with GPS Units and Softwear and Getting Started

Have fun!

If you dont want to spend the bucks. Windwalker is right. I have the etrex and I havent had any problems.

As I grow more comfortable in using it, I can see upgrading down the road, but for now it works fine for geocaching.

You can find many of the caches without a GPS. Go out and find a few, then you will have a better understanding of what you will want in the future.
