“Why would the United States bomb Beirut in retaliation for a car bombing by a Palestinian Muslim of an Israeli Jewish target?

Beirut has a large percentage of Christians, Lebanon is much less an enemy of Israel than any other country in that vicinity and if you check your history Israel invaded Lebanon in the 1980's to fight Syrian forces that were occupying Southern Lebanon.

“A couple nights ago I saw a one hour show on the military channel detailing the 1981 preemptive attack by Israel on the nuclear reactor in Baghdad.

Highlights:

Israel had just recently received F-16s from the US that were built to sell to the Shah of Iran, but the Shah had gotten kicked out.

The Israelis modified 8 F-16s to perform beyond their design capabilities.

8 pilots flew 8 planes 600 miles, each dropping two 1,000 pound bombs, which is all that could be carried that far with no possibility of refueling, all 16 bombs struck the target completely destroying the reactor, only 8 caualties on the ground because it was a Sunday evening and almost no one was at the reactor facility.

All 8 pilots flew safely home.

You are also correct that the Muslims and Arabs have more rights in Israel than any of the other Arab countries. Try having a gay rights parade in Egypt or Saudi Arabia. Hell, they even have an arab party within the Israeli Kenesit.
