Revenge Was Ours! Catskills Trip ReportView Messages“LOL! I think you're right! :-)” 8:41:26 PM 12/09/02 LMFAO!! “Would you like an apple pie with that? Dude, where did you get that thing?” 8:56:20 PM 12/09/02 I got some pics too.... “I'd probably remember the lines if you guys weren't speaking Norse. Anywho, super pics Corp! The climbing shots are great and I love the one with my "remains." I just uploaded mine so enjoy.. Pennsy's Pics” 8:56:59 PM 12/09/02 “Holy cow, Pennsy, killer pics!!! You capture the lunacy so well! :-) LOL @ Corporal Nasty! You must have gotten the song I emailed you, that took me a minute to figure out.” 9:13:07 PM 12/09/02 “Now that the pics are posted, I can breath and comment on the trip. Super trip reports Artex, Corp and Manuka. I don't have a heck of a lot to add to that, but I can say it is never a dull moment with this guys. It's always fun and there were many laughs: boot skiing, Corp's famous butt slides, snowball juggling, tree climbing, knife throwing, Artex's feeble food bag hanging etc.... It was great meeting 2 new people, WarrenNyc, another cool New Yawker, and the Kiwi, Manuka, a very interesting guy with tons of packin knowledge. And yes, I must apologize for rudely not waiting for Artex to take a pic of me hanging onto that tree for dear life. I'm pathetic. I'll do better next time. ;o)” 9:15:20 PM 12/09/02 “Jeez, Pennsy.. I mean, c'mon. What's the worst that would have happened if you would have held on a little while longer? It was only a 20-30 foot drop and the rocks didn't look all that jagged. Wuss! j/k of course” 9:36:25 PM 12/09/02 “Pennsy, next time you do that, please hang on until someone gets a camera.” 8:06:32 AM 12/10/02 “Yeah, I know.... and there was already a helicopter in the area air-lifting a climber that fell.” 5:39:13 PM 12/10/02 “Pennsy, that's probably the coolest album I've ever seen- I wish I'd gotten more shots of that ice in the dark, I have failed as a photographer.” 5:43:03 PM 12/10/02 “nice job, as usual Pennsy! Great shots, particularly the ice and winter wonderland. Love it! What's up with the corporal gettin' nekkid? oooh-la-laaa! hey, I've got a dollar! ;o)” 6:11:39 PM 12/10/02 “AmyG, he's always doing that. We don't mind so much, it's the smearing of goat's blood on his chest that we take exception to.” 6:17:40 PM 12/10/02 Okay, let's see here... “I was offered a dollar to hike with my shirt off. I was offered a dollar to pee on my hammock, and five to crap in it. Now, I'm being offered a dollar to get totally nekkid. That's eight bucks I could have made this week. Perhaps I need to quit my job and be stupid for a living. :)” 6:19:16 PM 12/10/02 Artex- “Was that your goat? My bad.” 6:22:29 PM 12/10/02 “It's alright, I was getting sick of eating gyros anyway.” 6:23:40 PM 12/10/02 Dude- “I hope that wasn't her name... J/K” 6:26:24 PM 12/10/02 “LMFAO!!!!!! :-)” 6:32:16 PM 12/10/02 “Ok ladies..... let's get back on topic here. ;o) Another experiment of mine this weekend, besides the Bat Ray tent and Esbit, was the down booties baggies test. Last weekend my booties got soaked walking around the campsite and were rendered useless. This week I stuck plastic bags over them and held them up with rubber bands. The good news was that my booties (and feet) stayed dry and warm. The bad news is that walking around with these suckers was scaaaaaaary! Try walking around a freshly waxed kitchen floor with socks on, but pitch the floor at odd angles. Weeeeeeee!!! Another tid bit from the trip: watching Artex try to hang a food bag is one of the funniest things you'll ever see.” 7:16:57 PM 12/10/02 “Pennsy, as you can probably guess, I suck at basketball! :-)” 7:19:45 PM 12/10/02 Pennsy's Down Booties trick “No, not the sliding around one, although that was pretty funny- He mentioned the plastic bag thing to me before the trip, and I did just that on Friday and Saturday- Worked like a charm. Of course, I stayed pretty much still once I had them on. Thanks for the tip, Pennsy!” 7:20:58 PM 12/10/02 “Not just basketball Santa, but knot untying as well. I hope you appreciate it that I untangled it and coiled it properly Sunday morning. Not even a thanks.... *sigh* Hey Corp - I actually got the tip from SirPete, but I got another tip from cowpatty that I am going to try. I picked up a can of Campdry silicone based water repellent from Walmart. A couple of coats of this stuff might keep them drier if we forget the bags.” 7:28:18 PM 12/10/02 “I remember you mentioning that one- I have to look into it. Forgetting the bags isnt' a problem, don't forget I can just call my sponsor and have them air drop us a set.” 7:30:52 PM 12/10/02 “You need a new sponsor. I saw your bags. It looked like you wore them over your crampons.” 7:45:59 PM 12/10/02 “Hey Pennsy, thanks for coiling my rope!” 7:50:11 PM 12/10/02 “They're not meant for that, Pennsy. Actually, they're not meant for wearing over your booties either. CVS told me they were meant to keep my head warm at night- When I asked about a sponsorship, they told me I should take one of the bags and stick my head in it, making sure to tie it around my neck nice and tight.” 8:00:55 PM 12/10/02 “LMAO!!!” 8:02:06 PM 12/10/02 “I gather the sponsorship contract was a short term base? Hey, I'm ready to deul with 'Malcolm.' I got me an ice axe. Woohoo!!” 9:45:17 AM 12/11/02 “and where are my photos of you manly men with your Booties on??” 9:48:43 AM 12/11/02 “Hey is Manuka a Morristowner or does he just work there? Artex, I reformatted your Colden Lake pic right off my computer. So I have to go steal another pic from your album. Hugs to Pennsy, glad that you are alive even though you don't share your bear canister with that poor afflicted Artex.” 9:57:58 AM 12/11/02 “Pennsy, did I see you in Pompay dellie in south hackensack yesterday?” 9:59:45 AM 12/11/02 “Pompay dellie?? I don't think I want to touch this one. I'm sure I'm getting roasted without knowing it. Lyndy - the canister stayed home this trip. It might stay home every weekend just to watch Hoops hang his food. Manuka works in M'town and lives in Flemington. I don't think anyone took any pics of my doctored booties, and I think the Corp was 'bagless' when I had my cam out.” 10:37:00 AM 12/11/02 “Kick ass, boyz! Nice pics and looks like twas an excellent adventure. Congrats to the first timers doing the winter bacpacking thang!” 10:39:37 AM 12/11/02 “Hey guys, it's been a bugger of a week so far... sorry I haven't posted yet..... great trip, I'm still sore. Great trip reports to, I have nothing to add except: I had my first full fledged face plant tripping over crampons and much to my surprise the first thing I was asked was not "are you OK", but rather "Can you hold that pose?" Thanks for posting the pictures, they have to be the best photos of me in the woods. January on the Escarpment, or the south side of Katerskill Ravine to practice ice axe and crampon use?” 7:33:20 PM 12/11/02 “Thanks for posting Warren. I was worried you'd ever speak to Artex and I again. I can almost hear you muttering: "All these guys do is take pictures and scream HI-OOOOO!!!" Hmmm... when you face planted, I could swear my first words were "are you ok so I can start laughing?" I like the idea of hitting the Escarpment or K Ravine, especially since I got an ice axe this week.” 7:46:57 PM 12/11/02 Damnit, you guys- “Don't tell me I have to go out and buy MORE gear. Jeez- Ice axe and crampon practice sounds cool, I don't think I can miss out on this- Someone's gonna die this time, and I'm damn sure not missing the chance to get THAT pic.” 7:57:21 PM 12/11/02 “Yep, with my Campmor gift certificates the folks are getting for me for Christmas, I'll be getting snowshoes and an ice axe. What WarrenNYC mentions sounds good to me. HI-OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!” 7:59:02 PM 12/11/02 “My ears may have been immersed in snow at that point... The pictures and the HI-OOOO are expected in the snow I would think....on my last trip I came back with over 200 photos... While it's a hike up, the falls and streams feeding them on Katterskills north face, the south side of the ravine should ice up and once a safe fall out if found should provide some decent mucking around (on the streams, not the falls). And I've been wanting to get on the Escarpment again. Gore was interested in a trip sometime in Jan. Perhaps a base camp/snowshoe somewhere else? Time for a new thread?” 8:03:28 PM 12/11/02
