“Now that the pics are posted, I can breath and comment on the trip. Super trip reports Artex, Corp and Manuka.

I don't have a heck of a lot to add to that, but I can say it is never a dull moment with this guys. It's always fun and there were many laughs: boot skiing, Corp's famous butt slides, snowball juggling, tree climbing, knife throwing, Artex's feeble food bag hanging etc....

It was great meeting 2 new people, WarrenNyc, another cool New Yawker, and the Kiwi, Manuka, a very interesting guy with tons of packin knowledge.

And yes, I must apologize for rudely not waiting for Artex to take a pic of me hanging onto that tree for dear life. I'm pathetic. I'll do better next time. ;o)”

Another experiment of mine this weekend, besides the Bat Ray tent and Esbit, was the down booties baggies test.

Last weekend my booties got soaked walking around the campsite and were rendered useless. This week I stuck plastic bags over them and held them up with rubber bands.

The good news was that my booties (and feet) stayed dry and warm. The bad news is that walking around with these suckers was scaaaaaaary! Try walking around a freshly waxed kitchen floor with socks on, but pitch the floor at odd angles. Weeeeeeee!!!

Another tid bit from the trip: watching Artex try to hang a food bag is one of the funniest things you'll ever see.”

“No, not the sliding around one, although that was pretty funny- He mentioned the plastic bag thing to me before the trip, and I did just that on Friday and Saturday- Worked like a charm. Of course, I stayed pretty much still once I had them on. Thanks for the tip, Pennsy!”

Hey Corp - I actually got the tip from SirPete, but I got another tip from cowpatty that I am going to try. I picked up a can of Campdry silicone based water repellent from Walmart. A couple of coats of this stuff might keep them drier if we forget the bags.”

“I remember you mentioning that one- I have to look into it. Forgetting the bags isnt' a problem, don't forget I can just call my sponsor and have them air drop us a set.”

“You need a new sponsor. I saw your bags. It looked like you wore them over your crampons.”

“Hey Pennsy, thanks for coiling my rope!”

“They're not meant for that, Pennsy. Actually, they're not meant for wearing over your booties either. CVS told me they were meant to keep my head warm at night- When I asked about a sponsorship, they told me I should take one of the bags and stick my head in it, making sure to tie it around my neck nice and tight.”

Lyndy - the canister stayed home this trip. It might stay home every weekend just to watch Hoops hang his food.

I had my first full fledged face plant tripping over crampons and much to my surprise the first thing I was asked was not "are you OK", but rather "Can you hold that pose?"

I like the idea of hitting the Escarpment or K Ravine, especially since I got an ice axe this week.”

The pictures and the HI-OOOO are expected in the snow I would think....on my last trip I came back with over 200 photos...

While it's a hike up, the falls and streams feeding them on Katterskills north face, the south side of the ravine should ice up and once a safe fall out if found should provide some decent mucking around (on the streams, not the falls).

And I've been wanting to get on the Escarpment again.

Gore was interested in a trip sometime in Jan. Perhaps a base camp/snowshoe somewhere else? Time for a new thread?”
