Who are they?
So people who do you think are the best backpackers on TT for 2002?

Have to have a Min of 40 bag nights.

Think of backpacking as a way of life.

There idea of a good time is being on the trail in a kick @ss thunderstorm.

Things like that.

Submit please.

And then at the end vote.

I don't fit into that category, lacking on bag nights- Whenever I think of a hardcore hiker, your name comes to mind, Mike.

According to a Drunk Stalker, I walk 500 miles a day. 100 miles before breakfast.

He asked me if I was going to walk home from TC2. I said yes, Pack Rat was going to Drive and I was going to walk next to the truck.

Folks such as Snow Nymph and Crazy Mike have served as an inspiration for me in the past to get out more and try to log more bag nights. Sorry, can't pick one.. have to chose both.

There are many, many others here on TT who have also stoked the fire.

having more bag nights than mike puts me in a position to vote that this may be the dumbest #&%!$ing idea of the year. it really shows you that no matter how many bag nights someone may have, they still can miss the point by a mile.

artex, don't try to get out for the sake of putting a notch on your pole, go out to be out. otherwise, the ninjas will eat you while you sleep.

Hey Dunk...
I went up to Yosemite for the day on Saturday and was also upset that the storm didn't come through!

Oh, since I don't have enough bag nights to qualify...my vote would be Snow Nymph.

Hikin Mike
I left early Saturday morning for some skiing up at Kirkwood. Funny how I was looking forward to the storm and ended up doing some spring like skiing. All was good until the Sheriff busted me in the Kirkwood parking lot making yellow snow.

We all bring something unique to the party that is true..

But the TT-ers that have instilled a love in me for my fellow hiker and made my TT trips truly enjoyable...there are many, but to name a few...

BpBaby, Om, P-dog, Walkindude, Jerber, Mozark, Geezr, Aero and the whole Montanapalooza bunch, and what would be a TT trip without Sarabelle and Gojo???

I think those individuals that stayed behind and helped to hual Prowler and his family off the mountian would get my vote. You 'll know who you are. Good People!

Good Pt. Rad. I got more bag nights of a different sort then I have on the trail. Which is more fulfilling?

He'd never even gotten his feet wet before MTpalooza. But by the end of that trip, he had become The Call of the Wild personafied.

Geobeet
Gotta put this here, too. It's a repeat of a post on the backpacker.com boards (sorry).

Here's a guy that's on his way to pinch off a "Kordell Stewart" and breaks his leg. What does he do? Does he lie there and cry like a little girl? No. Does he soil himself? No. He gets some help to the facilities and completes his mission. Only then does he go to the hospital.

Geobeet displayed the courage, the grace, the dignity, that I (and we all should) aspire to. Thank you for the fine example you have set.

You get my vote for best TT Backpacker of the 21st century.

I'd like to nominate SmileyGirl. Not because she has the MOST bag nights, but because she has become a good backpacker....she has improved her equipment, attitude and has gone out more. She seems to enjoy herself on trips now, whereas before she seemed miserable.

Who cares who has the most?

CAMERON ( Martyb's son)
He did all 26 miles of "The Beaten Path" in Montana's Beartooth Mountains and he's only seven years old. He is the future of backpacking.

AND to his dad for taking him.

Wow, Sass! Thanks! That really means a lot!

I agree with Birch and/or Radagast. (I think they said the same thing.) I don't think "best" can be defined by the # of bag nights, or whether backpacking takes over your life.

Its been said in this thread and many, many others, everyone I've met from this site has been great. You all are really great people. Hope to meet more of you!

My vote goes to the Montanapaloozers.

Aero & Geezr efforts as hosts, to encourage and support backpacking, regardless of experience and ability.

Also, Tex and everyone who contributed, to deal with the unexpected events, and give backpackers a good name
Hodgeman of BC

Its not about quantity, h@ll that just shows that one has lots of time. I think its more about overcoming personal challenges like...

First solo trip
First week long trip
First bushwhacking trip
Learning how to lighten the load
Learing how to deal with the constant little aches and pains

Its so much more than miles or nights. Its about the experience. I bet that folks who only get out a few times a year really get more out of it than folks who spent most of their time out. I dont say that as a judgement as I would love to be out more often...
