Oh geez, poor things! THey look like deer almost! THis is the first time I've heard of this. Looks like they all need a dip flea/mite treatment.

There's an idea; travel around the area with a tranquilizer gun, an engine hoist, and a big vat of flea dip in the back of a pickup truck,lol!

More than 15 infected bears is 60% of the bears in the area and mostly are females, sounds like a bottle necking of the gene pool. Isolation can cause some serious problems in the gene pool. Sounds like they need some new blood down there and more investigation as to the cause and cure.
