“I got to tell you guys, our computers have been down since yesturday. It has been WILD. I got to work at 7:00am this morning to hear our customer service yelling at another co-worker. I mean YELLING ten I heard someone get pissy with someone else, then hang up on them. So as of this writing im hiding in my office with the door closed. Because its damn scary out there. You forget what life was before the computers.. until you loose yours.” 9:26:51 AM 12/12/02 “We have three customer service centers with redundant capacity just in case something happens. However, in thinking about life before computers, the first lawyer I worked for still used a typewriter and carbon paper. I can remember his resistence when I encouraged him to buy computers and WordPerfect software.” 9:33:49 AM 12/12/02 “LOl we have a vender that still uses a type writer. i can hear him going "tap tap tap" while i place an order. i kid him all the time.” 9:47:01 AM 12/12/02 “Don't be silly. There was no life before computers.” 9:51:49 AM 12/12/02 “I was working in Waynesboro, Va., when they arrived with boxes of computer terminals for our new computerized typesetting operation one fine day. The editors began looking queasy. They installed the terminals that networked together and down to the typesetting machines in the basement. Then they held a training session. By now the editors began showing signs of panic. They went through a test run and the editors had wet spots on their pants. Eventually the computer geeks all left and the operation was on for real. There were ties, buttons, shoes, socks, torn shirts, tufts of hair, and broken booze bottles lying all around the editors' offices. Oaths, sobbing, and loud crashes came from within. Nobody dared to cross the threshold for fear of never being seen alive again. I volunteered to help them learn the intricacies of the infernal machines that had so rudely disrupted their lives. I thought I would be held in at least a modicum of esteem for my efforts, but found that they tore into my stories with renewed vigor and what almost seemed like spitefulness. They really weren't looking for ways to learn the computers but affirmation that the damned things didn't work and access to their Royals and Underwoods once more. Eventually they got the hang of the computers, but they never did ease up in picking apart my copy.” 9:58:31 AM 12/12/02 “No good deed ever goes unpunished...” 10:28:50 AM 12/12/02 “I just got a new PC at work, superpowered. However, for some strange reason (no one can figure out why) my work e-mail has become a slug and it DRIVES ME CRAZY! grrrr! It's the little things, LOL. o(=}” 10:37:12 AM 12/12/02 “I had in my work email. The pres of the company came in to tell me this guy from LA called him and said if I didnt stop emailing him he was going to the cops. i about peed my pants. Not knowing what was going on I called our It dept. it seems that my pc was going into my saved mail and picking out names and emailing people for no reason. It took this letter and emailed this poor guy an average 75 times a day for about 3 days. i thought i was going to jail! scared me. the guy was an a$$$ about it and it took our lawyers to clam him down.” 11:00:46 AM 12/12/02 “At least now the chisel doesn't slip out of my hand, which keeps me from hitting myself with the mallet. Stone tablets were much more reliable, though.” 11:05:14 AM 12/12/02 “Not computer but related… My five year old thought I was BSing her the other day. She was complaining about not being able to find the remote so I told her about “the olden days” – how we’d have to get up and walk to the TV whenever we wanted to change channels, it was only black and white and gray, we only got maybe 5 channels and after about 11 they all shut down until the morning. I don’t think she believed a word of it.” 12:16:34 PM 12/12/02 “heck even i don't :)” 12:19:29 PM 12/12/02 TORPARK “Anybody use Torpark?” 9:47:27 AM 10/23/06 “Is that where Thor parks his chariot? :o)” 4:24:02 PM 10/23/06 “free anonymous web browser” 6:34:17 PM 10/23/06
