I got back yesterday from hiking 11 miles over snow, ice and frozen dirt to a cabin and hotsprings. Couldn't really ski much, too little snow. Had fun though. Cut the bindings off my snow shoes to make crampons. Worked great! Wanted to get updated bindings anyway.

Have fun Pathman, Alaska rocks!

2.5 hrs or so of daylight.

Temps around 13F today, light dusting of snow last night.

The skiing sucks. I could use ice skates on some of the trails.

Just had a great hike, though.

COOL! Skate on, Brother! Seems like I heard of some snowshoes like that... The crampons are attached to your boots and then you step into the bindings. Hmmmm... can't remember the brand off the top of my head.

uh... what flavor of ice cream was that... ?

Started at my buddy's homestead, here, near Beacon Hill.

Topozone, centered.

Hiked west on his old access road and on the Birch Hill ski trails. Down to Farmers Loop and the Steese Highway. Next Map

Followed Dog Musher trails to Creamers Field Wildlife Refuge.

Creamer's Map

Crossed College Road south to the slough.

Followed the slough to the Chena River

Chena to Downtown Fairbanks.

Lunch at Pasta Bella, just finished with two glasses of wine, Sausage and Pepper Calzone.

Now at the public library, getting ready to go see my former coworkers.

I figure 12 or 13 miles.

Crampons required on trails.

Voles, Ravens and Fox.

Tracks of snowshoe hare.

My 15 minutes is up. Time to go socialize. Lab Christmas Party is tomorrow night. Rumors of thongs in a hot tub.

Home early Sunday morning.

Ciao!

Yep, Tilt's got it. Home now, back to work tomorrow.

No thongs at the Christmas party, but saw a lot of good friends and coworkers. It was hard to get up at 0300 to go to the airport.

Funny thing. I got "randomly" selected for baggage inspection and individual inspection coming and going. You should have seen the poor guy going through my 80" x 30" duffel and carry on backpack.

Speaking of thongs, I saw a girl walking around with low slung jeans with her thong sticking way up out of her back, and she had this big gut hanging over her the front of her jeans.

Being new to my area, I wanted to follow her home to find out where the white trash lived.

You know she must have looked in the mirror, and said "I look good", unbelievable. I should have taken a picture.

I can beat that. I saw a DOOD with a red white and blue thong sticking out of his trousers the other day. Someone was heard to say 'the stars and stripes are flying too-day!'

Biz, that reminds me of an e-mail I received that listed "how do you tell a man his zipper is down",on the topic of men having things showing. I laughed my @ss off at this one.

1. The cucumber has left the salad.

Santartex, try going to an Italian bakery in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn on a holiday. You see the nails, makeup, and hair even the most experienced climber couldn't reach the top of.

To all out there that aren't familiar with Bensonhurst, that's where they filmed that John Travolta movie on disco dancing which is still alive in Brooklyn.

Seems odd to take this thread back to Alaska after the thong talk, but here are some photos from the trip into Tolovana Hot Springs.

Photo conditions were tough. 3 hours of dim sunlight and cold, temps 0-15F. I didn't mess with the tripod much, it was too much trouble. The light you see in the pics is pretty close to the natural light level, I didn't adjust the brightness much because it made them look unnatural.
