I remeber reading about somewhere a person could ski between cabins and stay in the cabins. Does anyone know about this or did I just dream it up????

Can be done in Baxter State Park, Maine. A bunch of us will be doing this there in February. Reservations for the cabins required, of course.

PATC has 50-some cabins that they rent out to members. Locations are in PA, VA and WV and rental is something like 12-14 bucks a night, last time I did this. Most cabins are in the mountains (Shenandoah has a bunch) and are probably more snowshoe appropriate, but I am sure you could map out a few for skiing.

Have fun!

You might try looking up, "hut to hut", as well.

Good luck

I don't have the website here at home, but Phillips Brook in NH has yurts and there's someplace in Vermont.

If you come up north...there's definitely some "hut to hut" in British Columbia, Alberta and some in Quebec.

Ooooo, I believe there is some of that action in the Chic Chocs in the Gaspe peninsula.

That'd be in the vicinity of Mt Albert and Mt Jacque Cartier 20-30 miles(35-45 K) south of Ste Anne Des Monts(on the Ste Laurence River).

I've camped at Mt Albert in the summer and there is cross country skiing there all winter.

Hey, Twigeater, just to let you know that last weekend when we were heading to Sunday River for skiing on Sat morning,UK and I were getting pretty discourged about the day. Big surprise when we hit the entry road into Sunday River, it snowed to beat the band!!! So hopefully that'l be an indication and hope that'll still snow in the mountains for our winter hike. :) Let's think positive now.
