Identification Chips
What's your opinion of the I.D. chips that the goverment is planning to insert into new military recruits by 2005. It is basically the same thing as chips placed into animals for I.D. The long range plans will be ever citizen in the U.S. will recieve a chip in order to prove citizenship. Another way for "Big Brother" Orwells 1984 to keep an eye on us, or a necessity due to the new waves of terrorism. It could be scanned in airports and in theory could track you. The chip will be placed into the back of your neck.

I think that a passport or credit card with chip would be better. I don't like the idea of the government tagging and tracking people with an imbedded computer chip. It seems wrong in this day of satellite imaging and gps.

Sad to say this may be the future of things to come. If terror attacks continue and become more frequent and deadly, people may get to the point where they will accept this as a way to increase safety. We are getting to the point now where a few determined individuals can disrupt or destroy our way of life and some tough choices are going to have to be made about how to deal with that.

I think it would be a good idea to do that to people on probation or for when someone gets out of jail to keep track of them.

Well, another good reason why I don't/will not fly. I don't think that idea will stick in the public. Too many people out there like me that HATE needles. I don't think things could get that bad to where the government thinks they need to chip people.

Now, for kids under the age of 18, I say have at it. It would be great to know, at the click of a button, what's up with yer kid. Hell, all you would have to do is offer the service and just tell yer kid they've been chipped. Great fake out! Seriously, there are far too many things out there for kids to get into trouble and I think that it would be a good aid for today's parent.

Now fer the military, Great idea! I think many lives could be saved if we knew where our people were. Friendly fire could be cut down, etc. One thing I would worry about is the other army scrambling the chip and be able to turn your army against you. Wild, buy anythng is possible (where IS James Bond??)

next thing they'll want to put a gov't camera in my house to "protect" me from the "terrorists"
what's up with all this? we're supposedly standing strong in our way of life, yet we're completely changing it. they can already tap anyone's phone they want. i believe there's a bill right now also to keep records of everything they can get their hands on, credit card usage, web pages visited, bank accounts, etc. in the name of fighting terrorism.
in my eyes these a-holes have already beaten us. they've started our country down the path of not being free anymore.
we'll soon have to live like the terrorists themselves, watching our backs from our own government, instead of our gov't watching our backs.

Althought that sounds like a great idea on the surface, there are simply too many ways for something like that to be mishandled. I love this country, but I don't trust our leaders quite enough to give them a tool like that. Just imagine the possabilities to exploit something like that!

If you're not willing to have one, why should a kid be required. It's not like they'll take it out when he/she turns 18! Once they start with this there will be no turning back. How would you like it if you were a celebrity or the subject of a stalker; don't tell me information like this could't be hacked into!

Well, I've said it on here before and I'll say it again . . . if this is what the future holds, me and mine are heading to the "shelter." I am no way having a chip implanted in my body (mark of the beast was in the forehead or one of the hands, forgot which one, so if those are the areas of choice, I'll really flip out) or allowing my kid to be implanted. Bizzzzzzzarrro, my friends, bizarro!

" It's not like they'll take it out when he/she turns 18! ....."

rox - it would be a "right of passage" on the kids 18 birthday to get the chip removed.

" If you're not willing to have one, why should a kid be required...."

Hey, I'm a parent so I gets to be hyporcrital. That's MY right of passage! :)

Digital Angel...

that's what they call it....but some call it the mark of the beast...call it what you will but it's only a matter of time before implanted chips will be the norm and they will make harder and harder to manuveur thru society without one....hence forcing you to make a choice.

This is only scratching the surface....these chips can carry drugs in a highly concentrated dose...whereby they can monitor ALL of your bodily functions thru the chip and your position on earth thru the ever evolving GPS network. The drugs will be used to alter your mood under the guise of medicial necessity but will control how you behave. Call it mind altering or whatever...they call behavioural modification.

It's currently being tested on grazing cattle in Scotland, England and Greenland.

Stock Tip: Seek out companies that will be at the forefront of this emerging technology....that's if you can morally convince yourself to act on it.

DNA testing is being done already, just ask any military person, samples are being taken from "newbe's" when they come in and is saved through cryonics. Don't think you are exempt from it either, remember that throat culture you had done in the doctors office.

This sounds like something off of the X-Files. Most of the stories were out there but every once in a while they would do a story that I could see the goverment doing,

Anyone ever see the movie "The Conspiracy Theory" with Mel Gibson.

I think there was quite a bit of that movie that could be true.

There was a book out about 20 years ago called "The People Shapers". I think it was written by Vance Packard. In it he explained how in the future how goverments will use different means to control people with devices just like this. He also talked about other high tech things that would be used to control populations. One thing that was pretty weird was about a doctor in Cleveland that was performing head transplants. He calls them cephalic transplants and has successfully performed them on monkeys using micro surgery. The only thing they can't repair is the nerves in the spine so the monkeys can move. Someday it may be possible to get rid of your sickly body and put your head on a another healthy body. A lot of what he talked about is starting to happen. I can see the jokes now about how they put some guys head on a woman's body.

They can put a computer chip (like Boomarang) in my car NOW...that way I won't be paranoid of it being stolen.

Computer chips in humans...it doesn't sound too far-fetched.
