My mom has a very "relaxed" style of housekeeping, which apparently I inherited. I let things pile up while going to school, but now that I'm done I'm trying to pare down years of accumulated stuff.

I have this habit of putting clothes in bags to take to goodwill, then leaving the bag in the hallway where I can walk by it several times a day and say, "oh that's so pretty, I might wear that some day" even if it's a size I'll never see again.

But I'm trying to be more ruthless and doing a pretty good job. One night I searched the entire house for my long red wool coat to wear to a party. Then I remembered that I decided I had too many coats and took it to goodwill.

“Clutter, dishes, laundry, all these things that need to be done, but no one (including me) wants to do them.
Well I say they dont NEED to be done. Clutter? Throw it away!! unless it is gear then put it in your gear closet/room. Dishes? Use plastic and paper, or just use your hands. Better yet, just eat Mountain House, nothing but a pot to boil water in and spoon to wipe off with a paper towel. Laundry? Take it to the cleaners or just keep wearing your clothes until you smell like a wet dog.
Back in the real world, Tahoe sets to the tasks at hand- fold laundry, empty dishwasher, and pick up the 'mess' that I made while going through my backpack.”

“Lyndy..I read about this lady in the spring...that had solutions for clutter and I started using her methods..THEY WORK. Thing is it is a never ending process. I know though in my house that things get so overwhelming..it builds and builds till I just don't know where to start.

As for using camp gear at home, we had an ice storm overnight that came with plenty of early warnings -- so before bed I filled a Camelbak and a 2-liter Army canteen from the gear stash in case there was a power outage and told my wife that if the lines were down, we'd still be able to make coffee this morning with one of the camp stoves and GSR Lexan presspot. I was disappointed that, while we got about a quarter inch of ice on everything, it wasn't quite enough to down power lines and let me use my camping gear for an emergency day.”

“Another thing that i do... I didn't have any measuring cups so I used my nalgene to measure water around the house...I finally bought some measuring cups at wal mart last week though.”
