I find myself being lazy around the house sometimes and look up and all the dishes are dirty.

So, what do I do? I run to the gear closet and use my lexan utensil set to eat with and my nalgene bottles to drink from and my cooksets.

No, but I do throw all the crap in the car, drive to the lake, hike in a mile or two, watch the sunset and/or moonrise, chug a beer, fire up the xtreme stove and make coffee... watch the stars for a few hours then walk out and drive back.

There's a name for it... it's ah...

damn. I've turned into a picnic-er.

Don't worry binks, those are my dishes. I am in college so I have an excuse!

I couldn't do that.

Reason: if I look in the sink and see it filled with dirty dishes, there would be no point going to the gear closet.

Reason: the dirty dishes in the sink would be my nalgene, lexan utensils etc... Who the heck uses real dishes / cookware??

It's okay, Binks, I do that on occasion as well. I definitely don't have a neatness gene.

I hate washing dishes more than anything, always have. I try to use paper plates and plastic wear as often as I can!

Once I was washing a glass and it broke, slicing the skin over one knuckle. It bled like crazy and I couldn't get the flap to stay down. So I went to get stitched up and my 5 year old son got to watch the whole thing. Walking back to the car he told me he didn't want to be a doctor anymore, lol. He said when they were washing it out he almost threw up.

I hate doing dishes. And housework in general sucks.

I always do dishes after my wife fixes a big dinner for company. Its easy after a few glasses of wine or a few beers and some tunes are blasting.

Agreement in our house. If you cook you don't do dishes. Works most of the time, and I cook 5-6 days a week! :-)

I've been domesticated. In our house - whoever cooks dinner gets "dishes clemency." I used to hate dishes when I was young, but now it's more of a strong dislike.

Nowslimmer - what's up on Friday? Retirement?

Ass far as weird gear related practices - I build little cook fires in my backyard and boil water for coffee on some weekend mornings.

I hate doing dishes, but that's what the dishwasher is for. clean them before loading them into the diswasher? why?

Binks, you need to hire a maid to do those dishes for you!

Well, I have to say that for the first time, I share Jello's philosophy (No offense, Jello). I have a thing about dirty dishes too. And I'm not a female Treebeard either. Just ask Maple. Oh, and Maple dear...

Jello Grog could be a guy. My dad never uses the dishwasher. He washes the dishes as soon as he can and dries them and puts them away. I try to do this when my family visits him because I can see that he is getting stressed out.

Lyndy, you just touched on a subject for a whole other thread. Things you do that you normally wouldn't do just because it stresses out your parents/family when you visit. My dad is the same way - real anal about some things. You have to do it his way, or the house becomes unhappy real fast!

Actually my dad is so much more relaxed now than he was when I was growing up. Talk about tension! But the dishes have always been an issue.

When I was in college, people use to crack about what a neatfreak I was. I had to give is up once I got married, or there would have been wreckage. Now that the kids are getting older, I am trying to get things a little more orderly.

luckily, my parents aren't neat-freaks...they're neat without freaking out about it, though.

Well it depends on what method you use for persuading. Without spankings, it is a real challenge to get the kids to mind. It gets a bit elaborate, and works better when they start getting significant homework, because they are starting to get the whole "life is not always a beach" concept.

Same here binks, piles of clean laundry in my room, outdoor clothes neatly in their very own closet. I LIKE having all the dishes done and put away, I just hate doing it. geez, I'm such a slob! However, I'd work on the wood pile 'til the cows come home...

Geobeet, you could make it a research project, like the kids get at school. Do a search on the internet, take books out of the library, arrange to interview Martha in the Big House, and watch some old Felix Ungar/Oscar Madison shows.

Is anyone here really good with clutter, because that is what I can't seem to control. I love it when there are piles of clutter all over the house, and my husband will pick up one piece of paper and yell to me from another room "Do you need this letter or can I throw it out?" So that I can yell back "Do you need this magazine or can I throw it out?" As you can see, we never seem to make much progress on the clutter.
