Pick a Date for Iraq

If I remember right, Desert Storm began at about 5pm EST. The bombing of Afghanistan took place about 7 or 8am EST.

I figure this time to be somewhere in between.”

Wouldn't be prudent to go it alone, need the allies on board, Saddam, read my lips, ... ooops, beating around the wrong bush!”

“Although he has stated that the United States would do it alone, there is a lot of pressure on Bush to wait for a UN declaration. There remains a diplomatic minefield. I imagine there will be a flurry of information sent to the French, Germans, and Russians re Saddam not accounting for weapons we know he has, blah blah, to bring those countries on board.

In Gulf War I, if you will recall, Jim Baker was making the rounds of all the allied countries before we got down to nitty-gritty. Then Tariq Azziz was called to Moscow to be read the riot act by Boris Yeltsin. When that message failed to get through the bombs started falling.

And, by that time, all the allies had had enough of Saddam's intransigence.

The question the administration faces this time is what it will take to get France, Germany, and Russia onboard. When that happens, Saddam had better duck. This time around will be rough on him, and in a very personal way.

Regarding the Saddam in exile scenario, there seems little likelihood that would ever happen, or that the US would want it to happen.”
