“Trent Lott to Step Aside as Majority Leader

CBS News reports exclusively that Senator Trent Lott has begun telephoning colleagues in the US Senate, telling him that he is preparing to step aside as Senate Majority Leader.
Lott has been under pressure for weeks following remarks he made at a 100th birthday celebration for fellow senator -- and onetime presidential candidate -- Strom Thurmond. Lott's remarks have been widely interpreted as supporting Thurmond's segregationist platform.

Lott will hold onto his Senate seat. He could be making a public statement on the matter as early as this afternoon.”

"I did not realize at the time I apologized the effect it would have. It was a mistake, I admit it, and I can assure you it will never happen again," Lott said.

Before opening up to questions, the embattled senator got down on the floor and groveled for nearly five minutes.

After getting back up, Lott said, "I regret having to do that. I want to apologize to whoever my actions might have offended."”

That'd be a double whammy, to get a Democrat plus an African-American in there to take Trent Lott's seat. That takes the Senate back to 50-50, with Dick Cheney breaking tie votes."

seee, williams is black and he understands how the libs use blacks as a political pawn. he lived through the civil rights movements , he's around 65 yrd old i think. i think a black man is more qualified than you voilin to see the truth when it comes to racial issues and who is the real master of the plantation, ie;the dems. he and sowell have written extensively(their literary output is truely astounding) on this matter as well as specializing on economics(williams is economics prof at harvard).
