Doesn't REI have a 100% satisfaction guarantee?

Take them back and say you're no longer satisfied with them.

Leather is a hunk of a cow, so the dog was just doing what dogs do.

If they fed you on dog food you'd probably eat somebody's shoes too.

Rei has a cobbler they recommend, I think.

Violin, do you think dog damage falls under the guarentee, really?

Our dog chewed the pull tab of one of my old pairs of boots, along with: one loveseat, six more pairs of shoes, (you'd think I'd learn to pick them up), one coffe table, and numerous small bits and pieces. Bitter apple spray did the trick. One taste and they stopped chewing things besides their chew toys. Darn puppies!

I would fix the dog first!!! WHo owns pitties knowadays you a smack dealer or something?? No offense but I hate those dogs. We got one down at work. Its the meanest dog I have ever seen. First time it met me and a few other employees it tried to bite us. It kills a stray cat about every month. Truly a junkyard dog!!!

Send the boots back to the manufacturer or find a online cobbler that repairs. They should be able to sew a new tongue in at a cost of time and money. And spend a few bucks on some rawhide chewwies for' boot killer'.

Most pits I've met have been rel sweethearts, even the one owned by the crack dealer who lived a couple of blocks back. I'm not kidding. A cop moved into the neighborhood, and away that guy went.

My sister has a beautiful pit bull who is as friendly as can be. And dumb. Hazel is really dumb. But lovely and sweet.

It's not pitbull's faults, it's the owners. A lot of first time dog owners want pitbulls and rottweilers, and don't know how to raise them.

An exgirlfriend of mine has two beautiful, friendly and well-behaved pitbulls. I know of several other people for whom it's the same. It's all in how they're raised and unfortunately there are a lot of stupid people out there who don't raise them properly.

Don't be fooled. So many poeple get that breed confused with other VERY similiar variants of the breed. All simply based on looks.

They are killers, plain and simple. And the record speaks for itself.

The boots were already dead, the dog gave them new life by ingesting them. The Great Circle of Life.

And if a cow grazes on the land that the dog poops on, and the cow is killed and made into new boots.. it'll be like, reincarnation, man.

it's the owner that shapes a dogs personality...our dogs lay in the sun all day, play in the pastures, and basically do nothing, they are not aggressive only look it. They would hold a door open for a theif. We have a female rottie, male pit, and female white english.
This isn't about the dogs being killers..it's about me leaving a brand new sweaty, and muddy boot in his reach. I guess i'll try a local cobbler and if that doesn't work wait till after ocala and send them to rei for weeks and weeks...thanks for no help brair rabbit..lol..now we know your "pet peeve"...hahaha

The media way overhypes pitbull attacks also. Whenever a pitbull attacks somebody, it's guaranteed news. One rarely hears of the countless other dog attacks by other breeds. As a result, people's opinions are understandably a bit skewed against pitbulls. Dog owners (such as Opie) who know what they are doing will succesfully raise any aggressive breed of dog safely.

there are 2 cobblers that specialize...
in hiking boots...one on the east coast, one on the west coast...These guys are the best of the best and all the boot mfrs use them exclusively to repair their boots...

Dave Page the cobbler

or

David Ulan the cobbler

trust no other to put your hiking boot back into order.

This is interesting.

It's a 2000 CDC report on dog bits. Though the data on rots is not as extensive, they are higher for a 4-year period.

My dog rosey is a pit mix and the sweetest dog out there. She's never show agression towards another human while with me (she's a hell of a great guard dog tho).

People train these dogs to be aggressive. Yeah, it's part of their nature and some people choose to exploit it. Banning breeds gets you nowhere.

OPIE, I'd say just get a new pair of boots. Prolly cost you about the same. In footwear, I've lost about 3 pairs of sandles to dogs and a few pairs of slippers.

If we're not supposed to be racist against different types of people.. why shouldn't the same apply for dogs?

Good luck with the boots, Opie.
