Found my old boots.
I was cleaning out the garage and found my old heavy duty Danner hiking boots. They had been "lost" for several years :)
Sure could have used them at TC2 in that slush.

What is the best "stuff" to recondition them with? In the past I have used SnowSeal. I picked up a bottle of SOF SOLE Liquid Silicone and am wondering what others have used?

SnowSeal is what I have always used and it works great.

Becuase you have not used them for awhile put a few layers of it on them.

Then they will look as good as new.

I prefer mink oil. It's what we always used growing up in a wet slushy and well-salted part of Michigan.

spermicidal lotion....
it lubricates while keeping many things at bay...and kills germs that cause bad breath.

Stovestomper, use mink oil on minks only. For a pair of Danners use Danner Boot dressing its made for em, works great my danners are around 8 years old and going strong.

This is going to sound like and advertisement
I use to use mink oil, snow seal, bees wax, or what ever I could find but got tired of the oily mess and waiting for the goop to soak in. Now I use Nikwax. The major non-active ingredient in Nikwax WaterBased products is water. Water is used in place of solvents to carry the active ingredients into the fabric or leather. Other products just coat the top layer of the material which wears off and affects the breathability of the leather.

You really can tell a difference. Backpacker had a good article on this in ’97 or ‘98.

Try Rawlings Baseball Glove Conditioner, it works great on old leather.

Don't know about mink. lol

Stomper personally I prefer rubber and latex. Im a very sensitive guy and most leather is way too harsh for my skin!

FYI mink oil is the closest natural oil to human skin oils and has the benifit of water proofing at the same time as it softens the leather. Yak butter also works I hear but I havent ever tried it yet.

Put butter on your boots and you'll have varmits munching on them.

I wouldn't use mink oil. That's cow skin you're moisturizing, not human...or mink for that matter. I like Nikwax. G00SE likes Nature Seal (by Vasque).

Whatever you use, go easy on it. Multiple thin coats are better than thick ones. If you over-condition it the leather will break down and wear out sooner. I have made this mistake before. Good luck!

I wouldn't use mink oil either. That's for softening leather. Who wants soft (unsupportive) boots? I use the nikwax aqueous for waterproofing.
