Happy Birthday JesusView MessagesViewing posts 1 to 41 of 41 messages posted.
I just thought this was really cool... “"A young man whose father is a carpenter grows up working in his father's shop. He has no formal education. He owns no property of any kind. One day he puts down his tools and walks out of his father's shop. He starts preaching on street corners and in the nearby countryside. Walking from place to place preaching all the while even though he is in no way an ordained minister he never gets farther than an area perhaps 100 miles wide at the most. He does this for three years. Then he is arrested, tried and convicted. There is no court of appeal so he is executed at age 33 along with two common thieves. Those in charge of his execution roll dice to see who gets his clothing -- the only possessions he has. His family cannot afford a burial place so he is interred in a borrowed tomb. End of story? No, this uneducated, propertyless young man who preached on street corners for only three years who left no written word has for 2000 years had a greater effect on the entire world than all the rulers, kings and emperors, all the conquerors, the generals and admirals, all the scholars, scientists and philosophers who ever lived -- all put together. How do we explain that? ...Unless he really was what he said he was." --Ronald Reagan” 11:06:05 PM 12/23/02 “Jesus was a heretic and a liberal. Happy winter solstice, strat! :)” 11:23:50 PM 12/23/02 if that makes you happy phaeddy.... “wonder why you won't admit that you are a liberal.... "How many observe Christ's birth-day! How few, his precepts! O! 'tis easier to keep Holidays than Commandments." --Benjamin Franklin "...[N]atural liberty is a gift of the beneficent Creator to the whole human race...." --Alexander Hamilton "And can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are the gift of God?" --Thomas Jefferson "May the father of all mercies scatter light, and not darkness, upon our paths, and make us in all our several vocations useful here, and in His own due time and way everlastingly happy." --George Washington "He rules the world with truth and grace...." --Isaac Watts "Why is it that, next to the birthday of the Savior of the world, your most joyous and most venerated festival returns on this [Independence] day? Is it not that, in the chain of human events, the birthday of the nation is indissolubly linked with the birthday of the Savior?" --John Quincy Adams "It is good to be children sometimes, and never better than at Christmas, when its Mighty Founder was a child Himself." --Charles Dickens "If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world." --J.R.R. Tolkien "The place that the shepherds found was not an academy or an abstract republic; it was not a place of myths allegorised or dissected or explained away. It was a place of dreams come true." --G.K. Chesterton "Holiday and Holy Day, Christmas is more than a yule log, holly or tree. It is more than natural good cheer and the giving of gifts. Christmas is even more than the feast of the home and of children, the feast of love and friendship. It is more than all of these together. Christmas is Christ, the Christ of justice and charity, of freedom and peace." --Francis Cardinal Spellman "May the spirit of Christmas ignite in the hearts of patriotic Americans a determination to redouble efforts at recapturing control of our national destiny, so that our children and their children may know, as we have known, the joy of true freedom and the infinite glory that shines from the humble manger of the newborn Christ." --Fr. James Thornton "The Christmas spirit of Peace, hope, and love is the spirit Americans carry with them all year round, everywhere we go. ... The tree that lights up our country must be seen all the way to heaven...its lights fill the air with a spirit of hope, and joy from the heart of America." --Ronald Reagan” 11:30:40 PM 12/23/02 “Very inspirational. Thanks.” 11:41:18 PM 12/23/02 “Quit using Jesus in the same fukin context with politics! You'll go to Hell for that ya know.” 11:46:23 PM 12/23/02 “wd, it was a pretty big deal to the people who founded this nation. i don't really care if he would have been a liberal or not. thats not the point. ...... .... . but i bet he wouldn't have voted for clinton....LMFAO!” 11:57:54 PM 12/23/02 “dude, I don't even know what a liberal is. Another family tradition is to read the Christmas story before we open presents. If you want to download the Christmas story, I have one that prints well that is in chronological order at: http://www.csupomona.edu/~rosenkrantz/xmashtm2.htm Merry Christmas Everyone!” 1:27:52 AM 12/24/02 “^5 phil! Merry Christmas!” 1:37:02 AM 12/24/02 “I'm in on this one! Although in our fast paced, whirlwind lifestyles, America often turns on what made her great. This country allows us to worship and pray to God without fear of death, yet as a country, we try to eliminate God from all we do. As for me, without Christ, it all means nothing. Merry CHRISTmas!” 4:19:19 AM 12/24/02 “Christ=Freedom, I dig your name.” 6:23:06 AM 12/24/02 “So, dweebtarts, when dija start capitalizin' yer name??? No one else seems to have noticed, but I don't think it's really you. What is yer daddy's maiden name. Who played the lead man in 'The Maltese Bippy'?” 8:11:21 AM 12/24/02 “I though it might be a troll at first... but if it is, it's a carbon copy.” 8:34:56 AM 12/24/02 “It's probably the result of some commie pinko left-wing conspiracy... :D” 8:39:36 AM 12/24/02 Musta been a bad day!!! “I accidently said 'Merry Christmas' to a person who barked back that they were Jewish,,,, I said sorry to hear that.” 8:54:40 AM 12/24/02 “That's enlightening.” 8:57:26 AM 12/24/02 “That never used to be a problem, Briar. When I was in school, I'd wish my Jewish classmates Merry Christmas and they'd wish me Happy Hanukah. We even had school pageants for both faiths.” 9:04:02 AM 12/24/02 Jesus a liberal? “Hey Phaedrus, I'm not sure he was a liberal. Maybe a compassionate conservative. ;-)” 9:09:16 AM 12/24/02 ohh, it's me allright........ “"Cultures, civilizations, leaders and threats change, but the message of Christmas doesn't. ...It's about a miracle baby and eternal things." --Cal Thomas "By coming to earth as a child, God established once and for all that there is truth and that it is knowable -- knowable in the person of Jesus. In this relativistic age, when people claim there is no such thing as truth, this is surely something for which we can give thanks." --Charles Colson "The concerted effort to minimize Christmas has resulted in it being our national Happy Holiday holiday. The Christmas season is now the holiday season. Christmas parties are now holiday parties. Christmas is a time for giving and receiving presents and in many homes, nothing more. Who is this fellow, Jesus Christ, anyway?" --Lyn Nofziger "Christmas, coming so late in the year, reminds us that changes even late in life can make a huge difference." --Marvin Olasky "Both Christianity and Judaism came into a blood-drenched pagan world and civilized it with their concept of an omnipotent God who demands righteous conduct.... The more Christian, in the true sense of the word, America becomes, the more morally sensitive it will be and the better for all of us -- Christians and non-Christians, atheists and agnostics alike." --Don Feder "Christmas has always been a part of our national tradition. It became a national holiday for no reason other than its profound religious meaning." --John F. McManus "Christ's gospel is an alternative and rebuke to all statist tyranny. This Christmas, and every Christmas, we celebrate the 2000-year-old arrival of the only permanent King of the Earth...." --P. Andrew Sandlin "For all year round we are torn between the Spirit of Christmas -- generosity, love, friendship, compassion -- and the Spirit of Scrooge -- selfishness, egoism, narrowness and cold calculation. There is a never-ending competition between them for dominance over the souls of even the best of us. And Scrooge wins more often than he should." --John O'Sullivan "In a few more days we will celebrate Xmas, the day we commemorate the birth of you-know-who. ...It seems the modern consensus of enlightened people that his name should be used in polite society only when cursing.... [P]oliticians are often eager to associate themselves personally with you-know-who, even -- and especially -- when they rather flagrantly ignore his injunctions.... He was out of step then, and He is out of step now. He is eternally out of step, and eternally more powerful than those who keep in step. You know who I mean." --Joseph Sobran” 9:48:44 AM 12/24/02 “Merry Christmas, mi amigos. (John 3:16) "The angel of the Lord appeared to them and the glory of God shone 'round them." (Luke 2:9) "...The star which they had seen in the East went before them, till it came and stood over where the young Child was. When they [the Wise Men] saw the star, they rejoiced with exceedingly great joy. And when they had come into the house, they saw the young Child with Mary His mother, and fell down and worshiped Him. And when they had opened their treasures, they presented gifts to Him: gold, frankincense, and myrrh." (Matthew 2:9-11) "Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning." (James 1:17) "Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid."
