Is it a monocular style? handheld or mountable? Can you get a camera adapter for it? Thats one toy I would like to get someday.

Birch, how much does one of those suckers go for?

Does it use star light or something like that?

Stanlee, I don't think it was too expensive. My folks aren't the type to drop loads on one gift, and my mom ended up getting my dad one too. I'd guess $60 or less.

Briar: monocular, hand held, 1 pound 4oz, ours isn't adaptable with the camera, two AA bateries required.

Stanlee, it magnifies any ambient light available. If you happen to look at something bright like a halogen headlight, you will prolly burn up the optics and/or damage your eyes.

They are probably 1st or 2nd generation NODs, current technology is 4th generation. They work pretty good. I havent gotten to try them outta the city though. I hope they work well. I may just make these a luxury item on my trips from now on!

Seems like there was a similar thread about image intensifiers, etc. a couple of months ago... but I can't recall the ttle.

if ya think about it, does the weight justify bring it? Maybe! It would be helpful spotting bears around your site at night. At a pound or so (that's half the weight of my GPS), I'd consider it.

Cool Sass and Birch. I read somewhere there's one with a computer chip in it...it automatically shuts down or dims the image, if there's a sudden bright light...that one must cost a bundle.
