I should have gone hiking on Christmas like last year. Rain was forecast, but it never arrived.

I ate too much. How 'bout you?

i just went to the gym and got myself a membership for Christmas! i've been wanting to do that for awhile, and the holiday guilt provided the motivation. woo hoo for me! and yes, i ate way too much the past couple days.

We ice skated on the frozen bog Christmas day, it was great!

lyra I got myself a gym membership for my birthday a coupla months ago and so far I've gained five pounds! Yeah, yeah, muscle weighs more than fat, but I don't care, lol! (hey, I did get rid of some of that fat around my knees, hehe) However, I'm having a lot of fun and definately getting stronger - I don't want to be left behind on my own freakin' trip in February!

good luck to you!

Just got back from the gym also. I need to get back on a regular schedule. Still way too much sinful food around the house.

I did a day hike on Christmas. I'm quite happy about it!

"fat around the knees," LOL! i should have told the gym dude that's what my target area was!! i was hoping to find a women's gym within walking distance, but no luck. this one seems cool, though...and one good thing about it is, you have to call the day before to make reservations for the group classes (that's what i like the most). so if i feel like i've made an appointment, i'll be more likely to go!

Way Too Much Food, Yes.
I won't say what I ate the 24th (mass quantities of apetizer type foods at a friends), but for christmas dinner I cooked up a HUGE prime rib, baked potato's, sweet corn, rolls, and lobster tails.

It was AWESOME BABY!!!!!!

lobster tails?? when did that become part of Christmas dinner? apparently my family didn't get the memo. yummm...i'm jealous!

and my very own grandmother used frozen biscuits, can you believe it? i told her how good they were, and she said, "oh thanks, i'm glad you like them!" and later on i looked in the freezer, and her "homemade" biscuits were Pillsbury, LMAO! i feel so used.

bbinkley, once upon a time I could do nothing all week and hike my guts out on the weekends, no problem. But at 43 those days are gone - I gotta keep moving or else...
(I walk 3 miles/day at work, but that just keeps me from turning to complete slush)

Your gym sounds busy lyra! I've been told that next week the classes will get crowded, but by the end of January it'll be just us again. So far I really like the classes the instructors are great and we have a lot of fun!
I hope I don't lose my momentum.

what classes do you take, twiggy? i'm looking forward to yoga, pilates (never done it before), and "cardio jam." and they even have spinning classes...i've never done that before! sounds hardcore.

it's a really busy place...right in the middle of downtown, where everyone can go on their lunch breaks. that's what i'm planning on doing...i had to find somewhere convenient, or else i'd never go. they also have a branch close to where i'm moving in a few days, and i can go to any of their branches!

can you tell i'm excited? ;-)

I agree with bbinkley. I did a snowshoe and will have pictures up next week.

twigeater,

Yes, the key is to keep moving. Besides if all you eat are twig's than you should also be fine with the workouts 3-5 times a week. LOL

I joined with yoga in mind, but it's offered at such an inconvenient time - 7pm and 7am that I haven't been yet. I also haven't been to spinning because you have to sign up for each class.

I do step aerobics because it's so much fun and is a real stress reliever. Plus the more important weight classes are at 6pm, so instead of working late or going home (where I'm likely to stay) I take a 5pm class as well.

I do a couple of weight classes. One is called Power Flex and is taught by this woman who's a body builder and some nights she half kills us - but she's a riot and I do what I can, which is more all the time. The other is called Boot Camp and the guy uses this thing called a fit ball a lot, which is very difficult for me, but I'm improving. The instructors are all very energetic and fun, and they incorporate pilates and yoga in the workouts.

I have to go after work. In the past I've tried morning classes, but kept forgetting various important articles of clothing like shoes, unerwear, etc, and lunch time classes just stress me out.

Pathman - I believe that site needs a "spell-checker." I could not locate "mobilises" in a dictionary.

I'm sticking with my aikijutsu classes. We learn to mobilize other people to the point where they are immobilized.

Yeah, at da Tech, I had aerobics, volleyball, ice skating, and social dance. was enrolled in bowling, but i broke my foot. :(

nothing like paying a couple hundred $$ to take a yoga class....

if you took yoga a couple times a week for the lengh of a semester, you'd probably be paying a couple hundred $$ anyway...

however, if i had to pay that to ice skate, i'd be pissed! LOL. i hate it. eewww, eewww, voleyball's even worse!

i had to take 4 p.e. classes anyway....volleyball was my least favorite, but a bunch of my friends signed up for it....skating was fun. free ice time! ok, well, not free really.....

i went to my new gym for the first time today! i took a step aerobics class, and it kicked all forms of ass. much like i do. hee heeee!

i admit, i didn't take a shower afterwards, because i didn't want anyone to see my bod. but it's okay, though...see, i figured it's sort of like backpacking, with the no showering and all...umm yeah.

good for you, bitpusher! does your office building have a gym inside just for you guys, or do people from your office get to join a separate gym for free?

LOL @ lyra!

Step aerobics is kinda like dancing don't ya think? Sometimes I get be-boppin' to the music and we turn and yep, I'm going the wrong way (again) 'cause I was too busy gettin' in the groove, LOL!

i'm torn!

my current gym is OK, but i don't like the cardio equipment. that's really the only downfall. seems i don't drag myself there very often, since i hate getting on those ski-type eliptical machines.

my FAVORITE gym is having a special thru tomorrow. 1/2 off the initiation fee (normally $400) and $50 a month, no contract. less than a mile from my house. GREAT place.

found out the city i work in is opening a rec center which will offer discounts to anyone who works within the city. it'll end up being less than $20 a month to work out there, and is close to work. but its not opening until April.

what's a girl to do??
smiley girl
12:33:02 PM

it's definitely similar to dancing, twiggy. i was doing the same thing, with the not paying attention! and i wasn't too swift with all the combinations, since it's been a couple years since i've taken a step class...and there were only 3 other people there, so it wasn't like i could hide behind anyone! :-)

hmmm...well, that would work out to $100 a month at the new, awesome gym, smiley girl, if you were to stay there 4 months. that's like $3 and something (math) a day, which isn't too bad. and you would probably go more often if you knew you were losing a good bit of money by not going.

my gym was $75 to join initially, and $75 a month...i didn't know if that was normal, or what.
lyra
12:40:22 PM
12/30/02

$75 a month! yikes! that seems like a lot.

the fancy-schmancy gym has free classes. the cheap gym does not. i kind of like having my choice to use the cardio machines, or get into a class.

We have our own gym, which the company paid to have outfitted. One of the guys here did a lot of research and got good deals on the equipment we have, so we got a lot. I like the treadmill; it has some programs which automatically adjust the inclination of the tread. I change the speed myself.

I wonder how crowded it will be next week, after New Year's? Today (and most days I'm in there) I was alone.

aww man, i'm jealous, bitpusher! :-) although i do like classes, like you do, smiley. the treadmill gets old for me in about 2.3 seconds.

No kiddin', last time I took step was....probably 10 years ago. The combinations they've dreamt up since then, whew!

Right now I'm going on a $99/3 month deal for the club. In January I'll join with just the aerobics membership for something like $250/year with 10% off if I pay up front.

When I start training in April for the Trek Across Maine, I start out with short, 10 mile rides so I can avoid that. No other pain compares to the pain of getting on your bike the next day after you've sat too long, lol.

Speaking of toilet seats....I'm sure I left some skin off my butt frozen the the seat of the Piazza Rock outhouse yesterday.
