Okay, anytime you with zooms you compromise picture quality-how much is debatable. However, they are much heavier than a couple of prime lenses. When you buy third party lenses and especially zooms you are entering the danger zone with bad optics and quality.Tamron,Sigma, vivitar are junk...What kind of camera do you have?Nikon has a very good 80-200 zoom that you can get used for about 400.

I have a Canon EOS Rebel 200. I have a Tamron 100-300 with which I took all my photos from my trip to southern Utah. I also take hockey action shots which I have blown up to 8x10 with no prob that I could see. Even the bodybuilding pics turned out ok.

I dont know about canon lenses. Are they very expensive?Anyway 100-300 zoom that u have may be fine cuz the range isnt so stretched but when you cover extremes like 28-200 and for only 400 bux its gotta be poor optics and pictures.I have a Nikon FE and the lenses are quality and not so pricey.Maybe read some tamron reviews at photo.net

Thank you
Davex the 100-300 is a tamron also. I appreciate your info. Also on the Tamron site the lens costs $798.00 Also it has an EISA award (whatever that is) and was selected as European lens of the year.

Apparently the award u mention is bogus. It is some tamron award that they award to... themselves!Just more ethically lacking behavior from the corporate world.Surprise,surprise...
Anyway,check out photo.net for opinions.

I went to the Eisa website why do you think this is not legit? Sorry if I am beating this to death.

ok so i got my info from photo.net and maybe this isnt a tamron award but it most certainly is bogus and is concocted for misleading the public. If you go to find out about eisa they mention NO NAMES of companies or what the credentials their board...Its prolly a website that gets paid to put up awards. Also read the description of the tamron lens-it sounds more like an ad than a judgement statement ie"...can guarantee..." .It doesnt mention any specs or performance opinions etc...
