Jump to Page |  1 | 2   | 3   |  next >> but it may be true. “I'm probably coming out there for a meeting 4/26-5/1.” 8:48:52 AM 12/28/02 Uh oh... “I smell a trip...” 8:57:31 AM 12/28/02 “Yes but it has to involve five hikers or less per Pathman's previous comments. Hope you enjoy your trip, that time of year can be nice or cold and damp, depending. There is lots to see in NYC, maybe wandering in and around the art galleries in Greenwich Village.” 9:09:36 AM 12/28/02 “LyndyS has a good memory. ;-) I might make exceptions if the group is wearing TT T-shirts. Looks like the general meeting starts Saturday, but my course wouldn't start till Mon AM. hmmmm.. There is also an afternoon off on Tuesday. Meeting ends around noon on Thursday. I'd probably fly back Friday AM. Packing would be fun. Business attire and backpacking attire. I've got to check the schedule at work Monday, then I'll know for sure.” 9:51:57 AM 12/28/02 “Perhaps even a day trip. You’d have to promise to report back that the entire region is paved over though. We have an image to uphold. One tip – in NYC try not to stare up at the tall buildings with your mouth open – it marks you.” 2:09:28 PM 12/28/02 “Also, if you someone comes up to you saying "smoke, smoke, smoke..." under his breath, he's not warning you of a fire.” 2:18:44 PM 12/28/02 “So, I shouldn't walk around saying "gowwwlly...." ala Homer Pyle?” 3:35:47 PM 12/28/02 “Make sure to have an open map in front of you at all times!” 3:46:16 PM 12/28/02 “and make sure to have a camera dangling around your neck....oh, yeah, and my favorite - walk really freakin' slow - down the MIDDLE of a busy sidewalk and occassionlly come to a dead stop. It works better when you're with your entire bloated family of midwesterners(please know that I am not refering to you, your family, or any platypi...) - that way you block the entire sidewalk and make people crash into one another. If you're confused about this technique - please walk along Canal Street on any given Sunday....the worst are the German families - arghhhhh!!!! j/k....sort of hehehe” 4:01:58 PM 12/28/02 “I have the impression that our Pathman has traveled quite a bit. I'll bet that he has been to NYC a few times before. Maybe not, so a few tips are good. I like Artex's street smart tips. I can just see Pathman with a crack dealer making him an offer. "Yo! Wanna buy?" says Mr. Crackdealer. "Hey! Wanna autopsy?" says Mr. Pathman, opening his jacket to show a lining with all kinds of scalpels hanging, like he was selling watches of a different sort.” 6:37:57 PM 12/28/02 “I know, that was a really bad joke. But come to NYC anyway.” 6:54:45 PM 12/28/02 “moohahahahahahahha.... scalpels? Knives are more impressive. The favorite knife of many forensic pathologists is a Henckel boning knife. They do the whole case with it. Got rid of a couple of guys harassing me in the Philippines by telling them I was haunted by the ghosts from all of my autopsies, then started talking to the ghosts. The guys split pretty quick. I've never wanted to go to NYC, but I'll take advantage of the trip for a meeting. Been to Chicago, Boston, New Orleans, worked in San Francisco, lived in Oakland, Houston, Dallas, worked at 5th and K NW in D.C. Had a gun pulled on my once there and that was while I was in high school. Learned to drive in the D.C. area, too. I didn't just fall off of a turnip truck. ;-)” 6:55:46 PM 12/28/02 “Pathman, do not follow anyone into an alley to look at anything or for any reason. Do not even look interested when you pass by stands of watches or any other brand name merchandise that's up for purchase. Becareful if someone bumps into you or asks you questions, they may be trying to avert your attention while they steal your wallet. If you really want to place it safe, don't leave your hotel room, and only travel in groups of 5, lol.” 9:50:08 PM 12/28/02 “Ha, you really do take me for a bumpkin, don't you. LH, what you describe is a walk in the park compared to Manila or Olangapo.” 10:53:27 PM 12/28/02 “Don't make eye contact with pan handlers or street preachers. If a street peddler trys to hand you something don't take it. If you do, you've bought it. Don't stand out in your dress or behavior. If it sounds to good to be true, it probably is. Stay away from mapleleaf, she has bad luck. ;-)” 11:00:15 PM 12/28/02 “Don't run out of gas in the wrong part of town. Keep your wallet in your front pocket, or better yet in your sock with a few bucks in your front pocket. Don't dress like McCloud (similar to above, don't stand out, but McCloud types still run around NM).” 11:08:30 PM 12/28/02 “Oh, BTW, Domodossola Italy is a nice place too. Nothing like an Italian border town.” 11:09:26 PM 12/28/02 Pathman “"The favorite knife of many forensic pathologists is a Henckel boning knife." Where can I get one? Oh, yeah, "they" probably won't let me take it on a plane. DRAT! Guess I'm the wrong kinda doctor. *pout*” 11:35:07 PM 12/28/02 “Pathman, I agree with you about Manilla. You could get abducted there, and held hostage for ransom. My brother's girlfriend is from the Phillipines. My brother has gone there a few times, and is going back in January. My brother loves how cheap the seafood is there.” 12:15:43 AM 12/29/02 “mmmm.... Outside the Subic Bay there was a seafood place run by a retired Navy Chief. Best item on the menu was "Hunk of Fish". White filet, leeks or something like that, steamed in a banana leaf. The P.I. was pretty scary while I was there, the Navy wouldn't let us travel much in country. Riding a bus from Bagio to Clark AFB I noticed the driver looking very nervous. Looked at the vehicle in front of us, and I got nervous too. Open bed truck with about twenty guys, all wearing red bandanas and such, carrying rifles. Too bad, it is a very beautiful country, and most of the people love Americans. However, enough hate us so passionately that it can be pretty scary if you stand out as an American.” 8:53:22 AM 12/29/02 RE: NYC “Dates are ok with my wife. I'll check work tomorrow. Looks like a probable go.” 9:03:05 AM 12/29/02 “Pathman, part of the problem is that there are so many radical Muslims there, and they want to take over part of the Philipines for themselves.” 3:54:55 PM 12/29/02 “The Communists were not very friendly either. That's in the P.I. Any bloodthirsty Communists in NYC?” 10:12:39 PM 12/29/02 “The communist group is the one that most people in the Phillipines talk about while stashing guns under the seats of their cars and jeeps. But the muslims are also starting to become a major fear.” 6:39:11 AM 12/30/02 “The Muslims were a great fear when I was there 10 years ago, especially if you went places like Mindinao.” 7:04:54 AM 12/30/02 “Is this for real or just a crule joke? well then, Treebeard and myself would love to be your personal tourguide! (not to worry, we carry all the nessasary weapons) It would be great to meet you. I thought we would not get to meet you until next year when we make our way southwest. will you be staying in the city?” 7:25:14 AM 12/30/02 “No cruel jokes, unless me going to NYC is a cruel joke. ;-) The meeting is in..... Times Square!” 7:28:54 AM 12/30/02 “an autopsy, Lyndy, LOL!! you so crazy.” 7:33:21 AM 12/30/02 “No autopsies involved in the meeting. ;-) If I'm lucky, I only do a couple a year now.” 7:36:40 AM 12/30/02 “well you know if you would like to do more, that can be arranged for ya!! you see those couple of homless looking people standing over there...............” 7:44:38 AM 12/30/02 “bring your onw bodies, ands i'll show you where to hide them :)” 8:28:57 AM 12/30/02 “oh wow, can i come?? ;-) and, i must admit, everyone who lives in NYC thinks their city is the sh-t, and that no one has ever seen anything remotely like it, and that you better be reeeeaaaally careful, or you'll get shot or something! what's that about? just noticing...” 8:32:06 AM 12/30/02 “Wow, Maple is scarier than I thought! How was the cabin that you rented for the family, Mapleleaf? I didn't see where you mentioned your vacation anywhere here?” 8:33:03 AM 12/30/02 “...okay, maybe not everyone who lives there thinks that. but the two times i visited the city, my friends from there acted like i was totally retarded or something, just because i wasn't from there. or maybe they thought i was retarded for other reasons... ;-)” 8:45:34 AM 12/30/02 Yeah - what's with that? “Isn't DC a suburb of NYC after all?” 8:52:24 AM 12/30/02 “DC is a suburb of hell, as far as i can tell. ;-) ha!” 8:55:35 AM 12/30/02 “I live in Park Slope, thats the Yuppie capital of NYC. nothing here but, gays(not that there is anything wrong with that) doggies and cobblestones.” 9:00:53 AM 12/30/02 “The days are open at work, putting in the request now.” 9:10:01 AM 12/30/02 Request approved. “I'll be in NYC April 26 or 27, leaving May 2.” 1:59:35 PM 12/30/02 “do you think you will have time to hike?” 2:03:01 PM 12/30/02 “How about Sunday 4/27? I'll fly in 4/26. I'll also have Tues afternoon 4/29 and Thurs afternoon 5/1 free.” 2:25:07 PM 12/30/02 “well i feel a cold coming on, but it make take about 5 months to get here (wink) the 27th sounds like a date! when it gets closer we will set up a hike for you. do you want an overnight or just a day hike? close to the city or a little farther? Harriman SP or Catskills” 2:30:11 PM 12/30/02 “Can't really fit an overnighter, better make it a dayhike, but it can be a long day. As long as I get 6 hours of sleep by Mon AM, I'll be good to go. I'll leave it up to your rotten judgement. ;-)” 2:33:38 PM 12/30/02 “ok then lets make it a day hike to the Catskills!!” 2:44:06 PM 12/30/02 “Isn't that where some guy fell asleep for 20 years?” 4:58:10 PM 12/30/02 5:04:54 PM 12/30/02 “yes I think its true and then they called it woodstock. thats a place you must check out!! its on the way to the cats” 6:14:59 PM 12/30/02 Woodstock? “Rip Van Winkle went to sleep for 20 years and woke up in Woodstock? Must have been some really, really bad stuff.” 7:37:21 AM 12/31/02 Any Hotel Suggestions? “The meeting is at the Westin Times Square for $210 a night. Anyplace you would recommend within walking distance that would be nice and less expensive?” 9:23:21 AM 1/18/03 “You can stay with Maple and I in Brooklyn for nothing. We are just a subway ride away.” 9:32:02 AM 1/18/03
