I think it's cool, except for the growing-a-steak-from-yourself part.

Of course, you could always market your own jerky called "Eat Me!"

Grow 'Em With Onions And Potatos
Mmmmmmmmmm...protein spheres suspended in growth medium sounds delicious. I prefer them harvested and made into nuggets or patties.

I think they should concentrate on more important things, like Snickers bars.

Gosh, Buddur, when you put it that way, it sounds even more unappetizing that I originally thought!

biz, I thought you'd be right in the forefront here as a materials engineer, developing some sort of inorganic, beef-texture burger.

Gee, Artex you can already make your own Snickers bars at home, you just have to know how to make nougat. They're just nougat, peanuts, caramel, and chocolate...

Yeah, making them is one thing, but to have them reproduce? I mean, like, wow, man!

OK, sure, just as long as you don't try to cross them with Mounds bars. That'd be a crime against nature.

My home lab is up and running... Excuse me, can I borrow some tissue from your cat? Yeah, thanks. I'll let you know how the jerky turns out!

Just think, in a few a few years they could grow targeted muscle groups; grow your own roasts! Author Bujold writes about stuff like that.

Medically, this could also be fantastic. Growing replacement tendons, cartilage, and such.
