It's in Tennessee “I went to Virgin Falls Pocket Wilderness this past weekend. It was an awesome hike!! Got to the trail head about 7:45 on Friday night and camped at the trailhead. There were a few flurries and some snow already on the ground. Sat: woke up and headed down the trail and about 1.5 miles we came to a small falls that was not that big. About .5 miles past that we walked along a nice creek a good ways til we came to a 100foot waterfall that was gushing. It came off the cliff and then disappered into a cave and the the water went underground. We finally came to Virgin Falls after about 6.5 miles into the hike. It was AMAZING!!! The falls were roaring and dropped down about 300 feet. I haven't ever seen something like this. We found a campsite on top of the waterfalls and gathered plenty of wood and then put the beer in the creek to keep cold and then went to the cave entrance on top of the waterfalls. It was neat. I went back in the cave about a mile and then headed back out. The roaring creek went through the cave and then came out at the head of the waterfalls and then tumbled off the cliff and then disappeared into a cave at the bottom. The water was no where to be found. Sunday: Woke up and hiked out. It's a great place to go. It's downhill mostly going in and mostly uphill coming out.” 1:33:35 PM 12/31/02 “Virgin Falls is a Great place. It's only 4 miles back to the Falls though. The Fridgestone/Firestons Wilderness is right next to Virgin Falls. That's a fun place to check out too. Caney Fork trail is REAL FUN if you like fording rivers. The camp site at the top of the Falls is awesome. Only thing is that if you want a fire the wood is always picked clean. There is a BIG Camp area at the bottom next to the river with plenty of wood. It's only about 100 150 feet in elevation below the Virgin Falls Camp sites.” 1:45:45 PM 12/31/02 “For some reason I thought it was 6 miles in. Oh well...Yeah I had to haul firewood up from the bottom. We wanted to camp at the site on top for the view. Next time I go I will go back on the River trail and make a 2 night trip out of it.” 1:56:36 PM 12/31/02 “Brandon, Have you got a map of the Bridgestone/Firestone Wilderness? If you don't, send me your address and I'll send you a copy of it. It connects with Virgin Falls.” 1:56:41 PM 12/31/02 “Is that where they get them tires from?” 1:58:47 PM 12/31/02 “Good hike report...looking forward to this weekend. Can sure use some time in the woods!” 1:58:57 PM 12/31/02 walkindude “do you have the same maps that the C of C at Sparta are giving out. also did you see my post on the Ocala ECT trip” 1:59:17 PM 12/31/02 “No Ewker, I didn't see it. Very helpful!” 2:12:47 PM 12/31/02
