Have a happy and healthy New Year!” 1:03:45 AM 1/01/03 “happy day! day hike tomorrow, anyone? where?” 1:06:10 AM 1/01/03 “Unfortunately, that #&%!$ is real. I usually see it under the microscope. Disarmingly pretty. ”1:07:36 AM 1/01/03 “pathman - enough! one more and I will throw up on you!” 1:08:29 AM 1/01/03 “If the support group wants more pictures, let me know. Go for it! No day like today! Hike, Hike, Hike your blues away! ”1:15:41 AM 1/01/03 MOTIVATION IS KEY! “If it would help, I'd gladly let you through up on me. LOL.” 1:17:30 AM 1/01/03 “Good Night MMSG.” 1:18:55 AM 1/01/03 “I just printed out some of those pictures Pathman. I'm taping them to the back door, (the back deck is the smoking area). So far, no problems. I'm CT, Birch has Zyban. It's the staying quit that's hard, not the quitting. If everyone quits that said they are it'll be soooo much easier. No one to bum smokes from on trips will be wonderful!!! I know we all can do it.” 8:26:04 AM 1/01/03 Sass, Birch and other Participants “If "ANY" resolutions come true for 2003 I hope it's everyone's resolve to quit smoking. My Mom died of lung cancer and our daughter-in-law's mother is going thru chemo and radiation treatments now. Never quit trying. I stopped in '81 after smoking 3 packs a day for years. You can all do it. The very best to you!” 8:54:49 AM 1/01/03 “Gee, I must have been tired. "throw" up not "through" You just keep quiting till it sticks. Don't take the first puff. If you slip and do, don't take the second. If you slip and do, don't smoke another. Don't hang out around other smokers, too easy to bum. If you find a pack you forgot to throw away, immediately smash it so the cigarettes are crushed and get rid of it.” 9:19:02 AM 1/01/03 “At last nights party, I was offered at least 20 smokes through out the night. I kept turning them down. One of my friends asked me why I was doing this and I told him. He thought it was a great idea. I also told him I was sick of paying to die.....” 9:33:59 AM 1/01/03 Turn them down man!!! “Good going Laqtis! Proud of ya Buddy!” 10:05:50 AM 1/01/03 “Just think of all the money you'll save also. I know down here smokes are about $3 a pack. That's about $21 a week. About $90 a month. And about $1095 a year. That's A lot of f**kin GEAR!!!!!” 10:12:21 AM 1/01/03 “Okay – Pathman is the official gross out king now. I humbly abdicate. Good luck people – the first time you notice that you can inhale and exhale deeply without making funny noises or coughing, you’ll be very happy. It is so worth the considerable effort. Try lots of fruit juice and hard candy. If you get really bad cravings, try that nicotine gum – it worked for me. You get a jolt of nicotine that way, not a barely noticeable, constant level like the patch. If Pathman’s pictures aren’t enough negative reinforcement, how about a “______ really sucks” thread for anyone who wusses out? I’m talking about a nasty, no holds barred type thrashing that only TT can deliver. Sound fair?” 11:39:04 AM 1/01/03 "______ Really Sucks" “Violin - I like it!! I really like it!!” 12:09:28 PM 1/01/03 Or a Thread titled.... “And the LOSER of the week is____________!” 12:36:39 PM 1/01/03 BEST OF LUCK! “I quit 16 years ago. It wasn't easy, and there are still some days when someone else's cigarette smells good to me--but those days are rare. What was helpful for me was each day I would put cash that I would have spent for cigarettes that day in a coffee can. If it was one pack, then the cost of one pack went into the coffee can. When the can got full, I went out and bought me some gear. Can't remember everything I bought, but it did include a bicycle and a new pack. I was doing 2 packs a day. If I was doing that today, I would have mega-bucks. One pack of cigarettes in the city of Chicago go for over $5.00! Hey, maybe that's an idea to help yawl quit, move to Chicago to smoke, or send me your money and I'll buy the cigarettes here, then ship them back! (So what if that violates interstate laws!) Anyway, best to all of you. Keep your fingers moving so you don't covet your neighbor's cigarette! Best, Mark” 12:53:03 PM 1/01/03 This might help “I recieved this in one of my daily emails.. Message for Tuesday: The past has taught us that balance in all things is the key to success. As we contemplate the changes we wish to implement in this coming year, we are advised to remember this lesson. We cannot hope to succeed by one extreme resolution. For every action or change there must be a balancing one. Every diet requires more self care and love to fulfill the needs once filled by food. Every vow to quit smoking must be accompanied by some healthier habit. Every promise to work harder must be balanced by an equal promise of more quality rest Quote of the Day: The best and safest thing is to keep a balance in your life, acknowledge the great powers around us and in us. If you can do that, and live that way, you are really a wise man. - Euripides (484 BC - 406 BC)” 12:56:09 PM 1/01/03 “ ”1:08:06 PM 1/01/03 I always like this one. “ ”1:14:23 PM 1/01/03 “Good luck, guy and gals! Dont pick up! BIG KEY!” 1:22:38 PM 1/01/03 “Thanks for the support all. I think it'll be really helpful to have everyone rooting for us. Pathman - I get the idea you're really into this thread? lol” 1:22:54 PM 1/01/03 “Wednesdays are a very sad day for me. Cancer Conference. Too many the cases are related to smoking. Here is one for the HMWHC ”1:25:46 PM 1/01/03 OK, last post here for now. 1:28:41 PM 1/01/03 I Believe Cigarettes Are Better For You “I could never give up cigars or smokeing a pipe! 8)" Crazy Mike Backpacks 02:28:36 PM 12/31/02 From my understanding, cigar and pipe smoke because they are unfiltered, are much worse for you that cigarettes.” 1:38:25 PM 1/01/03 “Pathman was just jealous of Violin's toe. Good luck folks! It's tough but do-able! You'll go slightly wacky for a few days, but So What Else Is New? LOL Birch, I did the Zyban a couple of years ago -- and it worked! I didn't need to take it nearly as long as the directions stated, but I was chewing Nicorette also. I took it for a week before quitting, then I lasted two weeks taking one every day. The third week after quitting, I cut back to one tab every other day and found that I didn't need the gum anymore either. I went from 12 pieces per day with Zyban to FOUR to zero in the space of 3 days. It's tough, but YOU CAN DO IT. Chew those straws! Bend those paperclips! Snap those rubber bands! Chew that gum! Way To Go Guys!” 1:57:48 PM 1/01/03 “Good luck everyone! Do it for your existing or potential children and grandchildren as well as for yourself. Don't put yourself or them through a long painful drawn out debilitating illness resulting in an early death. Don't pick up those cigarettes or hang out with other people while they are smoking.” 2:10:29 PM 1/01/03 “Even though cigar & pipe smokers say they don't inhale, tests have shown that some smoke gets into the lung. although cigar and pipe smokers might have less of a risk for lung cancer, the risk of mouth, throat, lip cancer is high. Think about the toe in the earlier post, that could be your lip or mouth! Best to all of you quitting!” 2:22:00 PM 1/01/03 Just saw the thread “I'm in, quit 1 week ago last Saturday. I made a list of little things that I wanted to do and every time the urge comes over me, I do it! Clean a cupboard, take the dog for a run, go to the gym, plan a trip, read a book, call a friend.... you get the picture. Last night was the most difficult yet, and I got a lot of second hand smoke. However, waking up this morning to a bedroom reeking from the lingering smoke in my clothes made me realize how I must smell to others. Let's do it!!!” 2:53:01 PM 1/01/03 “The first couple of weeks is the hadest. After that the craving subsides. Your about half way to the easier part Hutch! You Can Do It!!!!” 2:58:27 PM 1/01/03 “For me it was 3 days of hell and 2 weeks of heck. ...so one week is about half way.” 4:58:08 PM 1/01/03 “Yes, that smell is something else --- when you can smell it! <G> (I had to get my car fumigated, LOL)” 7:34:19 PM 1/01/03 The Stink! “ How you all doing? Need any more pictures?” 10:54:13 PM 1/01/03 excellent!!! “Best of luck to all of you. You'll never be sorry. I quit 5 years ago and it was rough, but the best thing I ever did.” 5:57:43 AM 1/02/03 How's it going? “Saw a cancer of the tongue yesterday. Radiation therapy or cut off part of the tongue. Saw a lung cancer today, probably inoperable. Cancer conference today, 12 tobacco related cases on the list. We won't get through all of them.” 12:58:55 PM 1/08/03 Doing Great! “Today was another example of teh perfect smoke day. Van broke down on the way to daycare in the morning, me and the boy had to walk to daycare (sucks! it's his Birthday today too). Then I walked back to the van, still wouldn't start, so I walked to work. When my sis came and helped me out, she was smoking and the thought never crossed my mind. Funny, she always offers. She did a couple of days ago and I refused, but she hasn't offered since. Would be nice if both sisters decided to quit. My oldest sis has about 1/2 alung left (hacks up for 1/2 an hour in the morning to "free up some room"...) My mom has started smoking as well (after quiting almost 30 years ago).” 1:23:48 PM 1/08/03 Doing fine “Good job Q. Luckily I'm not around many smokers often. Weekend nights out are tough. Should go hiking instead!” 1:47:12 PM 1/08/03 “Q, great job! Sassy, how are you doing? How about an update from the rest?” 1:50:06 PM 1/08/03 “I'm doing great, thanks. Oh, wait. I didn't smoke in the first place. :) Honestly, I'm very proud of the MMers. I don't know what its like to need that fix, but I imagine its tough.” 1:54:30 PM 1/08/03 “Smiley, what's going to be tough is someday not being able to do what they enjoy most. Our daughter-in-laws mom is going through treatment for lung cancer for the second time. Her odds of beating it are non-existent. She's just trying to buy a little more time to spend with her three lovely grandchildren. Very sad.” 2:25:15 PM 1/08/03 “I'm doing great. This is almost the end of day 8. I've heard the first week is the toughest... If that's true, the rest'll be a cake walk. I'm so proud of me! :-)” 7:12:19 PM 1/08/03 “I am proud of all of you! 8)” 7:16:59 PM 1/08/03 “I had one today, so I start anew...” 7:57:49 PM 1/08/03 “Tarabull, doing great. Dhutch1, ditto Birch, never quit trying. Sassafras will appreciate having you around those extra years that not smoking will buy you. By the way, how's she doing?” 8:18:40 PM 1/08/03 “No smokes for her, she's tough!” 8:26:26 PM 1/08/03 “Great job you guys, keep it up!” 8:45:18 PM 1/08/03 Jump to Page << prev
