YEAH! TT is Back! Good job Matt
After backpacking in the Snow of San Gorgonio, we headed to desert of Anza Borrego in search of adventure, exploration and discoveries.
We were not disappointed on any point. Plus in addition we were able to hook up with my friends (themselves treasures too me) of So Cal Hikers. The hiking club I call home. The days were filled with abandoned Railroad ruins, Native American Pictographs, Sea Bed fossils at 2000', Windcaves, great company and a when the light is just right!!! A surprise that boggles the mind and ends the adventure on an awesome note!

The trip report is with the pictures

Anza Borrego's a beautiful spot. I used to spend a lot of time there when I lived in San Diego. I envy you.

The colors in the pictographs are amazing. I've never even seen yellow and red is rare. excellent!

So, what's your theory on the 5 legged animal? heh

WLD - your best yet
Powerful experience.

Your feelings came through in your writing and I felt some of your excitment. Great work.

Hmmm..there's so much there, it seems. So many questions too. Like, where did they get the substance to write with? How did they develop it and why does it last so long and weather storm after storm?

Also, I'm thinking the five legged animal looks more like a large scorpion. And the yellow symbols superimposed over the red ones brought new meaning to the images. Remarkable... No, astonishing.

It's as if a message was only meant to be conveyed in the presence of light.

That's an interesting observation Tekapo,I am not sure at this point whether it was intended, or faded to the point that just the right light was needed...
Biz, I think they were drawings of either Big Horn Sheep, which are in and around AB,the five legs would be 4 legs and a.. uh,,, you can figure it out.. Or a spiritual creature taking on the form of an animal. As seen in a vision by a shaman. Or a young guy who was just initiated as a man into the tribe. Also the color red for the pictographs in this area is pretty common.. It was used by Shaman... "Medicine men" And by young females who were initiated into the tribe as women. Although I do not think this panel is from young women. There are too many other color present.

I have recieved an email from a guy who said the multi colored sunburst was not there 40 years ago. If he is correct, then someone has re-painted it. Hmmmmm, that is not good!

I was up Cougar Canyon and found a 8ft eyeball painted on this boulder. The spot was sooooo awesome besides for that.

davex, I also agree about limiting the information about the location on the internet. However, with people we know. I think it is important that we share.

Biz, I cannot express on this board how I feel about someone damaging things of this nature. It no doubt would get deleted. :)

I agree with the location info. I saw a trip-in-planning on another site, a place I had been to. Someone wanted to sleep in one of the rockhouses! When I posted the pics, I was careful not to use pics that would give the location of the trailhead. I also didn't answer the email, and they never did the trip.

In Utah, I was talking to a ranger about petroglyphs. He knew I was interested and was not out to vandalize, and gave clues where a little known panel was. It was so well hidden, it took 2 days for us to find it. Beautiful!

I've seen the rock with the fat lips. Its been there as long as I remember.

A few years ago we dayhiked Whitney, and there was a club from Burma (all wearing t-shirts with "Burma-Whitney- photo-club name"). There must've been 50 of them. On the way down, one of the boulders at 3 miles had their club logo on it in big bold black letters. Duhhhh! I was so upset, I reported it to the ranger. (took 10 minutes, but was still my PR on Whitney) The ranger called the following week and told me they got ahold of the leader, and fined them.
