This is only half as far. Lookin' forward to seein' old friends and meeting new ones.” 6:29:54 PM 1/20/03 “bitpusher, even if no one else got that Gorge-a-palooza/AYCE joke, I did. Good 'un.” 6:34:45 PM 1/20/03 “The more the better! 8)” 6:50:10 PM 1/20/03 “Yo bear!!!! You goin' on this hike?” 8:33:10 PM 1/20/03 “Is there going to be hiking on Friday? What time is this show getting on the road? I would have a long drive and need to know if I need to come over on Thursday or if Friday will work.” 8:35:43 PM 1/20/03 “Can't wait to hike with you again Jgeils! 8)” 8:36:23 PM 1/20/03 “Looking forward to it CMB!!” 8:43:15 PM 1/20/03 “YES!!!!!! 8)” 8:44:59 PM 1/20/03 “has it been decided yet where the first nights going to be?” 8:47:18 PM 1/20/03 “HEY BBINKLEY!!!!! 80” 8:48:53 PM 1/20/03 “Just got the map yesterday. I promise i will figure it out by this weekend.” 9:01:26 PM 1/20/03 “bbinkley; Here's the thread I was talking about in our IM http://www.thebackpacker.com/trailtalk/thread.php?id=6128&age=999 Like I say it depends on what people wanna do Friday night. You may opt to find a good sight near Tunnel Ridge Road. The one, across from the Gray's Arch parking area, that is marked on the map is plenty big with decent views w/in a 5 min. walk. If the site were occupied already(unlikely on a Thursday or VERY early Friday) there a several unoffical sites along the Road. You just gotta watch for the obvious pull overs with 'goat trails' leading from them. These sites tend to be about 200' from the road. Parking may be an issue unless you get a site thats not too far down the road from one of the Parking lots on Tunnel Ridge. We would just have to agree on some sort of sign/trail blaze so everyone could find you once the find Tunnel Ridge Road.” 4:16:09 PM 1/21/03 “I can't wait too meet you Walkincrow Jerbear has had good things to say about you. 8)” 4:17:16 PM 1/21/03 “I'll vouch for Walkincrow too. I've hiked with him and look foward to putting down more miles.” 5:46:59 PM 1/21/03 Just a idea! “There are 39.6 miles of trail in RRG if we did 13.2 miles a day we could do all the trails in the park. Ya I know I am nutz! 8)” 7:10:04 PM 1/21/03 “There are more like 60 miles of marked trail in the RRG Geological Area. I can show you that many miles again of very interesting but unoffical trial. I was actually thinking about trying to talk a few people into a loop hike on unmarked trails up and around Long Wall(Directly across the river from Court House Rock.) The climb up and view from Court House Rock is also great and if you time your hike right as you hike out you can watch the sun set across the valley and then rise an set through Double Arch. That's pretty cool.” 9:28:25 PM 1/21/03 “Crazy Mike Backpacks; Hope I didn't sound rude but I was just looking at the Forest Service numbers earlier today. I'm such a geek!” 9:48:34 PM 1/21/03 “I had ordered the RRG map from the forest service and received it today. They sent a lot of info on the area and on some campgrounds close by.” 11:20:20 PM 1/21/03 “If anyone is interested you can get a nice topo map from the US Forest Service. The cost is $ 7.00 You need to send a check made out to the US Forest Service and send it to Stanton Ranger District 705 W. College Ave. Stanton, Ky 40380 If you want to call the number is 606-663-2852 I got mine within a week. It shows a few undeveloped camp sites on the trail. They also send you a small map and lots of info on the area. Postage is included in the $ 7.00” 11:32:21 PM 1/22/03 “Thanks Ewker.” 5:37:00 AM 1/23/03 “Yo dude what did ya need? 8) YAWN!” 5:42:55 AM 1/23/03 “Just got off the phone with Crazy Mike. Pending approval for time off from work, I'm in! :-)” 8:13:45 PM 1/23/03 “THIS IS GOING TO KICK ASS!!!! 8)” 8:24:15 PM 1/23/03 “i'll be down friday night. that new york mofo's comin now too? good lord, this one's gonna be huge. so artex, what other northeast clan members you bringin down with ya?” 8:53:09 PM 1/23/03 “If yall are cool with another person coming along, I will put in for the days off and see what happens. It would be great to hike with all of you.” 8:58:19 PM 1/23/03 “come on down Rob. Be great to meet you. Artex- you bringing any of those other northerners with you?” 8:10:04 AM 1/24/03 “13.2 miles a day, is this true?” 8:14:32 AM 1/24/03 “no maple leaf. we aren't doing that much a day. if some people want to do that they can. there are several different routes to take to get to the same point.” 8:17:26 AM 1/24/03 “i'm a maybe now..i'll know more closer” 8:44:20 AM 1/24/03 “Mapleleaf- you gonna come join us?” 9:50:52 AM 1/24/03 “thinking about it. I just don't have time to read all the posts on it. how about a quick summary?” 9:56:56 AM 1/24/03 BBINK “Please email me the meetin area and itenary. jerbear@backpacker.com I plan to be there, and email is easier for me to get than the website. RRG will be my terminus hike before I return home. FYI” 10:05:06 AM 1/24/03 mapleleaf “summary. Thursday night-some folks will meet up and car camp. Friday-dayhike or hike to the place where we are going to camp friday night-this place will be close enough for people coming in late to meet us that night. Saturday- hike-there are several routes to get to the same camp site. Let people choose which route they want to go and everyone meet up at the same camp area. Sunday- hike out and grab lunch together.” 10:15:11 AM 1/24/03 “hey bbinkley, have you decided where everyone is going to meet up at each night. So far there has been comments about this trail, that trail but nothing concrete. I take it you will post the itenary when it is decided. BTW what happened on the green team hike.” 10:25:46 AM 1/24/03 “Welp, easy come, easy go. I can't get the time off so I can't make it. Have fun you guys, I hope to meet the distinguished members of the Southern TT Clan soon!” 10:29:09 AM 1/24/03 “Artex, sorry to hear that you can't make it. Maybe the Southern folks can invade the North again and have better results the next time.” 10:33:03 AM 1/24/03 “LOL @ Ewker!” 10:38:04 AM 1/24/03 “If someone was NOT going to drive to Ky. how would they get close to the area? via...Bus, Train,Plane” 10:38:41 AM 1/24/03 “yep” 10:59:30 AM 1/24/03 “Greyhound baby, Greyhound. But it's a dangerous way to travel these days. Buddy of mine hopped one from Colorado a few years ago and the bus had to be boarded by police after a guy pulled a knife stabbed a guy and threatened the bus driver.” 11:11:07 AM 1/24/03 “There's always hitchhiking...” 11:12:54 AM 1/24/03 “well thank you very much, makes me feel safer leaving in the city knowing all this is going on in the Burbs... hehehe but what is the biggest town? Id like to do a search on air fare and bus.” 11:13:34 AM 1/24/03 “probably Lexington, KY” 11:14:49 AM 1/24/03 “Or Louisville is probably the biggest. Little further to travel. Crazy Mike or myself would probably go through both Louisville and Lexington if you needed a ride from the airport. I'm not 100 % sure I'm in for this one yet.” 11:22:40 AM 1/24/03 “indiana john- you won't be coming through lousiville ewker- haven't decided which place exactly but will post as soon as i know” 11:29:14 AM 1/24/03 “?? which way would I come?” 11:37:21 AM 1/24/03 11:41:29 AM 1/24/03 “Mapleleaf...Plane or bus is fine...i'll make sure someone is there to pick you up on March 10th *evil grin*” 11:49:30 AM 1/24/03 Jump to Page << prev
