Looks like I'll definitely be canoeing the Current River in Missouri those dates. I was looking forward to meeting a bunch of TTers, but I want to stay true to my annual outing with my old college buddies.

“I hiked the proposed area yesterday and it looks pretty good. The area at Pinch 'Em Tight is really sweet - gorgeous cliffs and views minutes from the campsite.

Binks, I'll e-mail you with some particulars.”

“Oh, yeah, the fee to park is $3.00 per night per vehicle. There is no separate camping fee for the backcountry. Probably the best place to get the permit is at the Slade Shell Station. When you get off the Mountain Parkway, exit #33 at Slade, turn left at the end of the ramp. Go a few hundred yards to the stop sign and turn right onto Route 11/15. The Shell station is visable ahead on the left. For those that might be coming in at meal time, Miguels Pizza, a climber hangout, is also near the stop sign at Route 11/15 (up on the hill).”

“no, it's a national forest, not park. They're different.

Thank you to everyone who's posted directions and map info, (ewker, milemonster, etc) makes it so much easier for us out-of-towners.”

“I was wrong about Miguel's Pizza being near the stop sign at Route 11/15. I've been out there at least ten times and I was sure it was up there on the hill. Well I was out there again today (hiking in the snow, yippee!!) and noticed I had made a mistake. To get to Miguels Pizza, for those interested, turn right at the end of the exit ramp off of the Mountain Parkway, exit 33, Slade. Miguels will be a bright yellow building a few miles down the road, across from Natural Bridge State Park. Sorry about the mix-up.

BTW, I hiked out to another great clifftop that is off maintained trails today. For those with maps, it is ridgeline due west of the red "Pinch Em Tight Gap", west of Rush Branch. Easy access. Mark it down as another thing to see in the Red.
