Kind of down
There is this story in Newark about these two boys that were found locked in a filthy basement almost starved to death. A third child, a brother, was dead, and stuffed into a plastic storage tub hidden in a closet. The mother had been in prison and gave care of the boys to a stripper cousin. When she got out of prison, she couldn't find the boys, and then when she found out where they were, she was hit by a car on the way to find them.

Then there is a story about militia in the Congo eating Pygmies if the hired ones don't find food and bring it.

This is just after reading "Cold Mountain", fiction about the Civil War, which is full of terrible people and some good ones too. I'm feeling pretty down about humanity. Are we in the U.S. supposed to make people around the world behave? Or just the ones that threaten us? We can't even protect our own innocents.

I know - that story is beyond terrible.

All you can be responsible for your own actions - that's enough of a challenge for most of us.

I heard about that story on the news. It was terrible.

Those kids might not ever have been discovered if the stripper's boyfriend hadn't gone down to the basement to find some boots, found the kids instead, and called the cops. At least he was decent enough to do that.

I just heard part of it. I was thinking, "did the newsguy just say what I Think he said?"

We know the capacity for true evil is there; there's no denying it.

and to think
this happens and worse everyday somewhere on this planet and has since time has begun...........so don't get down on all of humanity, there are good ones too ya know........being with the good encourages others and yourself to help overcome the evil that exist.......don't give up on humanity, cause that is exactly what evil wants.

have a nice day.......xoxoxoxoxo from Texas, JF

Deny that suffering is reality for most and be happy
or....
recognize that most people (children especially) in this world are in terrible straights and be bummed.
Your choice.

Yeah, that is kind of what I was thinking, Flyguy6x. There are a bazillion kids out there who are living lives that we would consider to be horrible. So many churches and agencies are sending food and supplies all over the world. Sometimes it feels like all those children are screaming in my ear and I can't help them. We can give them a meal or two, but that doesn't solve the problem. I worked for an agency in NJ that helps children and families in the poorest situations. The employees in the agency were always sick, I think from the stress and heartache. Some people you can help and some people really do need sterilization and lobotomies. DYFS is taking it on the chin for this Newark thing, but the reality is that the rules that they must follow, and the budget they are given really favor the bad parents while hurting the good relatives that make the complaints and take in the children whenever they can.

Post Holiday malaise, day light deficiencies and TT withdrawal may all be mitigating factors in your depression.

Cold, cloudy, windy days that remind you of the wild coast, but you are nowhere near the coast? Yeah, you could be on to something there.

Those were nice thoughts, Jello Fog. Why are you trying to pretend that you are JimmyC from the other side?

LyndyS, I'm right there with you. It breaks my heart. On top of the awfulness in NJ, we had five people shot in our city recently. Three of them were little children, execution style. They were the kids of a jeweler who had a vault in his basement. The details are sickening....

News this morning.....
I was watching the news this morning and found myself crying for the people the students, and all the passengers, that died on the plane crash in Charlotte..then they showed the story of the Hwy Patrol officers that had stopped the family in TN and their dog got shot...ended up that the family was innocent and that the father had left his wallet on the top of the car and money came out..they suspected them of robbery. Well the dog, a bull dog, comes out of the car WAGGING it's tail and he gets shot!!! HEAVEN FORBID if he was a child!!! I know that it dosen't sound as bad as the starving children or the neglected ones. It just really upset me. Thought I would share as well..since we were on the topic of horrible things in the world.

I'm done.

See, there is a lot of negative energy out there lately. We need to all slow down, be more patient and kind, and think positive thoughts.

Justice Department Statistics show violent child abduction by strangers has dropped nationwide by two-thirds in the last ten years nationwide and continues to decline. Such abductions are "very rare" says the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children. "While we have had a number of stranger abductions this summer, these cases are actually declining overall."
