They're here!!!! “Here ya go. My gear sled, ready to rock http://community.webshots.com/user/fulghum101 Feel free to ask questions. I depart for the yurt tour on Sunday. I'll file a trip report on my return and let everyone know how it performed. I'll post Yurt trip photos ASAP also. Enjoy!” 4:35:53 PM 1/08/03 kewl, thanks for sharing! 4:40:58 PM 1/08/03 “It weighs in at 9.75 lbs.” 4:41:56 PM 1/08/03 “Dang! What a view from your yard! I hate you!” 4:48:34 PM 1/08/03 “Dave, did you wax the bottom of the sled? It might be a good idea, to prevent iceballing. RichB recommended MaxiGlide for that problem with snowshoes and I'm using on my shoes and my sled. I love that cover you have! Great work... :o)” 4:50:31 PM 1/08/03 “I am planing to apply Maxiglide prior to departure.” 4:52:31 PM 1/08/03 “How do you keep it from slidding into you, when moving downhill? Ha, maybe you'll be riding it downhill.” 5:05:59 PM 1/08/03 “If you look closely at the leads you will see that they are "stiffened" with 3/4" schedule 40 PVC piipe. There is a rigid (yet slightly flexible) connection from me to the sled.” 6:22:02 PM 1/08/03 “Just bumping up....” 8:32:30 PM 1/08/03 “BWD, is weight not a concern? Curious to why the Rubbermaid container, or doesn't the cover keep everything contained? Looks like it will do the job! Nice work.” 8:42:45 PM 1/08/03 “I'm not as concerned about weight as I would be if it was on my back. I'm a big boy (6' 225lab) and can pull a big load, but I'll keep it down to 35 lbs or so. I'm primarily using it this year for a couple of yurt trips. The nice thing in the Yurt systems out here all provide stoves, propane, all cooking utinsils, pots, pans, etc. I threw the Action Packer in for scale. I haven't made up my mind yet if I will actually use it on the trail. I'm thinking I might primarily because A) it's only thre miles into the Yurt. B) We are havin an italina dinner the first night and I think the bread and salad will probably travel better in a rigid container. C) the beer will probably travel better (and stay colder) in the bottom.. We may be roughing it, but we aint stoopud.” 8:49:30 PM 1/08/03 “oops...That's 225 lbs (pounds)” 8:50:20 PM 1/08/03 Nice Pics! “I like the size of the Jet Sled Jr. I found a sled the same size as the regular size Jet Sled which looks to me to hold about twice the volume I'd need, and for the same price as the Jr. So For $5 more (S&H) I can get the Jr. I think I'll order it tommorrow. btw - regarding the pic out your back door...I hate you. 8)” 9:36:39 PM 1/08/03 “That would be a BIG "lab" at 6' 225! Look out Buddur Dog! Nice sled. I feel sorry for ya being hemmed in by those big ass mountains.” 7:23:54 AM 1/09/03 “Nice sled. Will be looking forward to seeing it in action.” 2:46:08 PM 1/09/03 Maxiglide “Just wondered if the Maxiglide that everyone is talking about is the same as the speed powder that is ironed on skiis?...or is it another form of the product?” 8:16:51 PM 1/10/03 “The maxiglide compound that we are speaking of is a liquid wipe on wax. In many ways it is similar to car wax in that you wipe it on, allow it to dry then buff it off to leave a very slippery surface. It's primary usage is on XC skis in warmer conditions. The "Speed powder" you speak of is a high flurocarbon powdered wax. The formulation will vary based on snow conditions and temperature. There is as much art as science involved when applying that stuff. The high flourocarbon (HF) waxes are incredibly expensive (as much as $600.00 for a three ounce tube) so you can pretty well count on me NOT applying that to my sled. Now if someone would like to sponsor me....I'll sure give it a go on my skis......” 11:53:09 PM 1/10/03 “It's not gonna take a sponsor for that after all that effort! Send it to me on the 25th when I snowshoe in 3 miles to a hut!” 3:22:38 AM 1/11/03
