LOL! you eat some weird stuff, dude. ;-)” 2:37:42 PM 2/10/03 “Don't despair, lee. I've had a few days like that over the past couple of months. It seems to me like that won't really kill your program - what will kill it is if you give up because you had two big meals. If I could be so bold as to make a couple of suggestions... You could have turned the business function into less of a calorie orgy by 1) drinking a little less alcohol, say, 2 glasses of wine, the port, and no beer; 2) having just one of each of the hors d'oevres; and 3) making sure your portions of the dinner courses weren't huge. Your wife's birthday meal actually doesn't sound all that bad, but if you did it again, maybe just make sure the portions were moderate so that you didn't overstuff yourself. One example for me is the bread and olive oil - I could eat a whole loaf of it, but I just stop after 2 slices. If I'm having it at home, I make sure I slice less bread to put on the table so it's less tempting. Hang in there, dude!!” 2:43:50 PM 2/10/03 “lyra, sounds like you've had some experience soaking up alcohol?” 2:44:23 PM 2/10/03 “less alcohol? now that's just crazy talk! i think i've eaten pizza like 5 times in the past week. mmmm!” 2:44:45 PM 2/10/03 “what?? it's a good excuse, bitpusher! :-D” 2:45:21 PM 2/10/03 “BTW, I weighed in at 164 this morning, down 6 pounds from my 1/13/03 weigh-in for this thread. My goal is to reach 155 by June 1, so I'm doing really well so far. How 'bout everyone else? How ya' doin'?!” 2:46:48 PM 2/10/03 Aren't you glad you're not on this diet.... “Darwin Awards Nominee No. 5: [Bloomberg News Service]: A terrible diet and a room with no ventilation are being blamed for the death of a man who was killed by his own gas. An autopsy showed large amounts of methane gas in his system. His diet had consisted primarily of beans and cabbage. It was just the right combination of foods, and the man died in his sleep from breathing the poisonous cloud hanging over his bed. According to the article, "He was a big man with a huge capacity for creating this deadly gas." Three of the rescuers got sick and one was hospitalized.” 2:48:49 PM 2/10/03 “Speaking of alcohol, I've cut back a little (down to about 2-3 beers or glasses of wine a week from 5-6), but don't feel it's necessary to drop it entirely from my diet, like some people. Also, have not cut pizza out of my diet, but just eat 3-4 slices instead of 5-6.” 2:49:44 PM 2/10/03 “i'm speechless, smiley girl.” 2:54:41 PM 2/10/03 “MartyB . . you are of course right from a common sense perspective!!! But . . . . The restaurant I was at Friday night is one of the best in the state . . .the food is remarkable. It is sooo much fun to go there, and I love food sooo much . . . .that if there was more to eat . . .I would have eaten it. It is fun to waylay the servers of the passed hor d'erves . . ."NO! You can't leave! I am going to eat more of these!" The fried oysters were worth committing assault for . . . I am big into pairings of wine and food . ..washing down the right food with a nicely paired wine is about as happy as I get. I could have (in your scenario) done without the 2 light beers . . . a group of us went out after dinner and a nursed the beers along just to keep the waitress off my back.” 3:03:27 PM 2/10/03 “fried oysters ARE the breast! and speaking of pairing wine with food...do you guys ever watch Jacques Pepin? that cooking show, with him and his daughter? she is soooo annoying! she couldn't cook up a batch of instant oatmeal, but somehow she knows everything about wine. what's THAT about?” 3:11:52 PM 2/10/03 “I'm now eating a healthy balanced diet and I feel so much better than while on Atkins.” 10:36:20 PM 2/10/03 “yummmmm, lee, sounds like you had a great "eating out" weekend! I had a rough one too: Saturday am, 1 donut, (the worst kind possible, custard filled...YUM) Saturday afternoon, after trotting over ten miles on ice, just barely covered by snow: BK double cheeseburger and fries (YUM) Saturday night: some fantastic city chicken ala Tarabull, complete with asparagus, smashed redskins and salad. Consumed with several glasses of wine and followed by Cherries jubilie ala mode. Followed by two beers, (and they weren't light either). Sunday morning: waffles topped with leftover cherrie jubilee. Sunday afternoon: leftover city chicken Sunday night: Chinese food (the worst possible again, all the really tasty fried stuff) followed by cheesecake. It's a wonder I haven't expanded at least two sizes!!! Thank goodness for that hike. Back to being good.” 11:42:38 PM 2/10/03 “Same here Wingding, I have lost lots of weight on the high protien, but this feels much better.” 1:00:13 AM 2/11/03 Since Last May “Skeetah Bait and I determined to lose weight permanatly and change our lifestyle such that it would stay off. I am down 31 lbs. and holding, she is down 12 and holding. The changes in our diet were significant in some respects, but it was all done a little at a time. The changes weren't so hard, once we set our minds to it. Now if we eat a pastry (we actually did once) the after taste of grease requires us to rinse our mouth out. They don't even taste good to us??? Who'd a thunk it? We feel much better, lighter on our feet, more energetic, and believe this will cause us to live longer with less medical problems (yeah, we're over 40, that kind of stuff starts to be important). Our diet does consist of just rice cakes. We have a bowl of ice cream every night (just a single serving size portion) gotta have our calcium!!! Probably the biggest chamge was matching the serving sizes to what the label recommendations were. Then avoiding the high calorie stuff. Good luck to all, you'll love the new lifestyle.” 5:37:14 AM 2/11/03 “Plateau pain here, holding steady for a few days at a -19.5 pounds since 12/26/02 when I started this. Haven't lost any more in the last 4-5 days, owing to a weekend fall off the wagon I suspect. Not a big crash, just did a little road trip, and made some cookies to send to my daughter at college. Back to the gym for some increased cardio work, and off to the Mazatzals for a 4 day back pack this coming Saturday. Hopefully that will break this plateau. Good luck all you other "loosers," hang in there.” 10:09:59 AM 2/11/03 “Lee, I understand what you're saying, and I reiterate that a pig-out once in a while won't kill your program. I'm somewhat ignorant about wine, but fortunate to live near the CA wine country, so there are zillions of good wines at moderate (sometimes even cheap!) prices. Down another pound this morning....” 10:15:28 AM 2/11/03 “Yipeee! Down Three!! I know I should wait for the average of a week or some other method to take the spikes and valleys out of it, but this sure made my morning. Two consecutive days at the gym, with increases in the level on the Stairmill and Stairstepper seemed to help.” 12:31:56 PM 2/14/03 “I did a 12 week plan on Body for Life. Dropped 25#. Been kinda slacking since the new year but, haven't put any weight back on. It gets to be habit hitting the gym at 6am every day. Time to get serious again. Much easier hiking without the extra weight beating up your body.” 12:39:55 PM 2/14/03 “Lost 5# this week- wohoo! Doing a combo of diet and more excersise.” 12:41:48 PM 2/14/03 “Way to go, team!! Lost maybe a pound or so this week - down 6-7 from when this thread got started.” 12:54:43 PM 2/14/03 “Wohoo I am down ten pounds :) This loseing weight has been easier then I thought it would be.” 10:55:09 AM 2/21/03 “I have lost 20 lbs in the last 2 months mainly by just cutting out half the candy bars i used to eat and mostly drinking water all day and a glass or two of 2% milk with dinner.” 11:00:35 AM 2/21/03 “I have cut out most carbs and sugar. This lose is from the last two weeks and I tell ya It makes a big diffrence! I have more energy already- more then normal. At work everyone can't believe I'm not having canisters of sugar and coffee for breakfest. They had to tell me that it was an office, not a place to belt out "Mr. Tamborine Man" yesterday.” 11:04:22 AM 2/21/03 “I'm glad you guys are having an easy time. Its not that way with me. I've been careful at controlling my portions, actually measuring out some things, exchanged fruits and veggies for my usual snacks, no fast food, and I haven't lost anything yet.” 12:10:50 PM 2/21/03 “I'm down 20 plus, depending on GodKnowsWhat. It has not been difficult. The exercise is what makes a difference for me, increasing the time and level seemed to be key. I heard that our bodies adapt to the level of exercise we do, and to loose you gotta increase it. Seems logical, and my experience bears it out. Good luck, hang in there!” 12:52:50 PM 2/21/03 “I definitely need to get back to the gym, but I've been working until about 7PM every night for the last few weeks. If I'm not wokring, I'm taking care of other obligations. Been making it to the gym about once a week, not enough, but I'm doing the best I can!” 2:14:56 PM 2/21/03 “smiley, i shouldn't say this but I still eat like a pig and eat whatever I want other than the boatload of candy bars i used to eat. I also carry my 30 lb son around on my back alot.” 2:54:16 PM 2/21/03 “Okay, we haven't been on this thread in awhile....was doing good, well actually still not that bad. Just a stand still right now.....but I did a bad thing. I bought my husband, who loves chocolate, for Valentines day and you know what, guess who's helping him eat them....” 6:02:27 PM 2/25/03 “Step a-WAY from the chocolate, Skeetah; step a-WAY from the chocolate....” 10:10:21 AM 2/26/03 “Another new low this morning-makes my day!” 8:27:21 AM 2/27/03 “OK, bringing this thread back up, since no one's posted here for almost 3 weeks. Howz everybody doin'??? My Monday morning report: weighed in at 160 this morning, a full 15 pounds under my max from November, and only 5 pounds away from my June 1 target. According to my plan, I'm about 3-4 weeks ahead of schedule. Success anyone? Failure?” 10:45:02 AM 3/17/03 “Still hangin in there....last weight this morning was 117, down from 131 last fall. My goal is about 110 before bathing suit weather. :)” 11:30:38 AM 3/17/03 “i never jumped in on this thread..but i have changed things to try to bring my weight down..then perhaps build it back up with muscle. Since November i have lost 15 pounds, cut out all soft drinks, only one serving when i eat a sit down meal, and made them smaller. I'm doing a lil free weight work, and being more active(less vid games/tv) Now if i could keep the munchies away!!..lol Once it stops raining and stays warmer, i'll start jogging” 11:31:04 AM 3/17/03 “Opie, one thing I do now when I get the munchies is to eat a piece of fruit instead of a cookie or something. I have found that I really like pears, so I buy 5 of 'em at the store each week and bring them to work. Every afternoon when I get a little hungry, I eat a nice juicy healthy pear. Yum!” 11:48:18 AM 3/17/03 “Jogging.... hope it's on a trail, away from exhaust and diesel fumes, and easier on the knees. While there are plenty of benefits to jogging, be careful not to pile up the detriments. My most immediate concern quickly becomes the knees. They can't take the pounding, followed closely by the exhaust and diesel fumes. As lacking in scenery as a gym is, you can eliminate both of those concerns. Then of course, there is bike riding...” 11:55:17 AM 3/17/03 “As lacking in scenery as a gym is, monkeyboy 11:55:17 AM 03/17/03 It depends on who is jogging in front of you. Nothing like a little motivation to make you keep up.” 11:59:15 AM 3/17/03 “How's everyone doing???? I'm kind of plateau'd yet, which I accept but it's time to get things moving down again. No gains but have'nt been able to keep the rapid loss going. I'll be around the office so I can get to the gym this week. A big hike I planned for the weekend didn't materialize, which would have been a help. Being so conscious of this makes me notice the "obesity epidemic" going on around me. It sure is an epidemic. Keep up the good work everyone.” 12:06:09 PM 3/17/03 “Ld- i would have thought you'd lose lots of weight beating your head against the wall at work!” 12:10:27 PM 3/17/03 “I've lost 20 lbs. this year (40 lbs. since january 2002). I'm running 3 miles a day, walking 5 miles, doing 50 pushups, 100 crunches, and climbing 20 flights of stairs each day. On Sundays I rest...I hang out with friends and then take a 10 mile hike in the evening. As for diet, I dont really have one. I just try to have a healthy breakfast, avoid caffeine (especially pop), and drink lots of water (i love water). Oh, and I've quit smoking since christmas. I'm 'bout 30 miles off my goal, but I'm not sweating it...I'll get there. The only challenge is trying to keep the weight off. Between 1993 and 1995, I lost over 100 lbs. Unfortunately, by January 2002, I had gained almost all of it back. This time around, I'm concentrating on forming healthy habits, creating an all-around active and healthy lifestyle. Back in the day, I lost weight pretty much by starving myself. Not healthy, not fun.” 12:24:32 PM 3/17/03 “monkeyboy - you absorb the same amount of pollution with anything that you do on a road with traffic, whether it be jogging, biking or walking. When I get back from a nice long bike ride, the layer of crud I wash off isn't just dirt. PS - the Trek Across Maine has pretty low enrollment this year - see the TT biking club thread. You and Skeetah had mentioned being interested. It's tough to raise all that money, but what a great time!” 12:34:44 PM 3/17/03 “all the roads around here are dirt...and the only fumes from the lone tractor....and the munchies are not satified with a peice of fruit...they need a whole large pizza, doritos, and small animals” 12:40:12 PM 3/17/03 “Twig....how do I get to the TT biking thread? Yeah, I still somewhat interested in doing the trek if we can fit it into our schedule and figure a way to raise that much money.” 1:07:38 PM 3/17/03 “need to lose 7 lbs, but I have the munchies....help!!!!! If you are thinking about diet/no food, all you see is food. Hate it. Food everywhere.” 1:11:41 PM 3/17/03 1:15:09 PM 3/17/03 corned beef and cabbage oh my “Well . . .I can't let St. Patrick Day pass without fixing corned beef and cabbage. And eating like a pig. So o o o o even having gorged myself last night I am still at 157. Which is theorectically still down 3 lb from my starting point. I have made only slight modifications to my diet (which was pretty good anyway) . . .if I was gonna actually lose this 5 lbs, I would need to ease up on lunchtime and evening meal portions.” 1:18:54 PM 3/17/03 I'm just starting... “My new bikini came in the mail today along with a halter top and denim shorts sooooooo, it's time for tummie crunchers! I lost alot of weight last year but I could stand to lose another 10-15 pounds. I've got my incentive now!” 6:30:41 PM 3/17/03 “Lee, and I thought I wouldn't mention my 3 pounds lost here. LOL!! Well, not that I don't need to lose a lot more. I hope the warm weather gets me outside a lot more!!!” 10:22:33 PM 3/17/03 “hey 3 lbs or 30 lbs. It's all the same if you don't feel comfortable with the weight on.” 6:03:48 AM 3/18/03 “gemini has the munchies...lol..pass it to the left!” 6:58:15 AM 3/18/03 Jump to Page << prev
